Yep, but you have to remember that the same information is being spread across Nintendo Direct, the actual conference, and the 3DS event tomorrow. Also, don't forget tonight's roundtable (I hope they'll announce another big game that I'm actually interested in).
@Shinesprite
Exactly. Sure the conference wasn't great but just a little while later we heard about Game & Wario so who knows what else will come out of e3 during the rest of the time.

Actually, E3 is for games journalists and, more importantly, investors. That's why you always see emphasis on those casual/party genres - because they sell well and are cheap to make..
Actually I was thinking of the audience in terms of viewers (net/TV) but you make a fair point. Goes some way to explaining the dull tone throughout. Still at least they didn't show too many graphs this time although that would have been more interesting than that Luigi's battery drainer game presentation.
Which makes me think that Nintendo isn't going to make their hardcore games a priority again and is firmly focused on this family aesthetic and is the way that the company will continue to move towards.
What did you expect from the company that invented the Family Computer?

Err ..what do I expect from the company that made F-Zero , 1080° , Starfox , Metroid , Wave Race, Advance wars?
I dunno some proper games perhaps. Maybe it's just me
I wasn't expecting anything special, as I've said before I'd spend £300 on the console if the only games ever released were Mario Kart and Smash Bros. None of the first party games announced so far interest me (except for maybe Nintendo Land, if it's bundled) but Rayman, Trine, Aliens, and ZombiU all look good, and all of the announced downloadable titles are instabuys.
NintendoLand is the best thing I've heard in a long time. In all seriousness, it looks like the multiplayer franchise-crossover game I've always wanted, with stylized inventive takes on many different Nintendo properties (Zelda, Luigi's Mansion, etc) all wrapped together in one package. For someone who finds Smash Bros boring, this is the mixup of Nintendo games with zany asymmetrical multiplayer that I want.
And I think it's perfect for launching the system. They can't satisfy all the demands for their key franchises at launch, so why not combine all their different characters and worlds with a Wii Sports-like introduction to the system's features? I'm sure my extended family will have a blast with it when I bring it by during the holidays.
Also: Nintendo is a toy company, and that's how I like it. I apologize to those who still use silly words like "hardcore" to refer to their toys.

Personally even though I use the term I don't like it but I think at this point everyone knows what the terms Casual/Hardcore means so what other terms would you want people to use. I get what your saying though and I'm sure Nintendoland will be wonderful when the family's round at Xmas etc but what about the times people want to settle down into a game with a rich story line and deep gameplay. Where are those games? I know Nintendo can make em but I didn't see any evidence of that today.
@Bass_X0 Thats not my point. I'm happy to have a mario game for the wii u. I just felt like it was all about mario. And i'm pretty sure mario isn't what will make hardcore gamers come back too nintendo. Mario is great but lately I feel like he could use a break.
IDK I thought Pikmin 3 looked cool, Zombi U looked alright and NSMB U looked cool (but the 3DS one looked crappy because it looked excatly the same as the previous 2 but with a lot more coins). Nintendo's conference was bad though, they rushed it so badly there wasn't much to look at or get excited about because they just gave us the gist of everything. There wasn't much explained on the Wii U and the Nintendo Direct didn't explain too much on it either. They should have just removed the 3DS section completely since they're going to talk about those 3 games again tomorrow. Also Reggie wasted too much time telling us that they're not gonna tell us anything about Wii U. Also Ubisoft had already shown just dance the day before. I felt like we could have been told more. I didn't really care for Nintendo Funland it was meh and too much time was wasted on it (considering it's on the same level as Wii Sports). The conference just felt rushed, like they tried to Squeeze so many game reveals that they forgot to highlight what's gonna make the Wii U special compared to the rest and they forgot to highlight the games themselves too.
The cat's the only cat who knows where it's at.

I get what you mean, but I feel as if there's no need to worry about seeing all the big franchises soon enough (Metroid, Zelda, etc) because they're a given. For launch, I like their focus on introducing the new social elements and quirky fun. But I'm a bit different in that I rarely find the time for lengthy story-driven games anymore (bought Xenoblade and loved it but am maybe 10 hours in after all this time).

This was a pretty awful presentation... the Wii U has everything except any games that are making me jump out of my pants and wanting the Wii U right now. I didn't go in with any expectations and din't look at any of the rumours that were floating around and still... I was really disgusted by how this went. No Zelda, no F-Zero, no Kirby, nothing. The only thing was Mario, but ofcourse he was going to show, he always does.
Most of it was shooting this, killing that, there was nothing that made me think... "HOLY CRAP DIS IS AWSUM!" it felt more like a Microsoft conference more than anything else with all the shooters and heavy amounts of violence.
Nintendo's E3 conference last year blew me away, this one was awful... hopefully they can give me some sort of hope tomorrow with the 3DS conference that'll last an hour... pfft, I have a feeling that hour will be full of games we already know about, I can just feel it.
@warioswoods Yeah I can see why they focus on that I suppose. Guess I'm just bummed because I really wanted to see at least a couple of Nintendo's 'core' (sorry, don't know how else to put it! LOL) franchises decked out in true next gen HD wondervision using the new pad in some really interesting and unique ways. All I really got is mini games, maps and inventory screens. Different strokes for different strokes though.
Or at least have these new Mario games have difficulty....U version looks...meh, can't really tell....but the 3DS one looks like a 5 year-old could beat it blind-folded...Seriously, what's with them and extra lives these days? :/

Keep it PG-13-ish.
I'm with OldBoy, I really wanted to see what Nintendo would show with the system with their main characters on-board. But all I got was games with 100% violence, blood, guts and mutated humans... when did this turn into the Microsoft conference? And then 2 new NSMB games, why do we need 4 of the exact same game?
I'm not holding my breath for the 3DS conference but it can't be any worse than today's. If this is the new Nintendo, I'm feeling worried about the future of gaming as a whole... they make some brilliant ideas, but all I'm seeing is a Microsoft/Sony console copy.
