I have been pretty excited about wii u for a year. so much mystery around it. speculation was on the rise about this grand reveal at e3 2012. sure enough, it was less than stellar. i went from "i should irresponsibly buy a wii u at launch" to "i should probably wait a year two and just milk the 3ds for a while" in a matter of 10 minutes. that is quite a strange feeling to have about a NINTENDO CONSOLE. this will mark the very first time i've gone "meh" about the new nintendo. obviously their fanbase has shifted to a more broad audience (as has the video game industry in general) so i understand trying to appeal to more types of gamers. but the fact that there was a major lack of first party titles starring either brand new ip's or the characters we all love, is a shifting point for the company and the brand. pikmin 3 looks amazing. but TWO new super mario bros games? no thank you. no dk, no kirby, no fox, no samus, no fzero, no link. baffling. this is absolutely going to be their most disappointing launch to date. i'm sure the games will come. but i feel like they will be few and far between. i could go on and on. i'll leave youn with this
e3 1996:
mario 64
mario kart 64
pilotwings 64
goldeneye
shadows of the empire
turok
the list goes on
e3 2012:
pikmin 3
new super mario bros u
some fitness game for grannies
some singing game for young girls
launch software that is pretty much wii play with different mini games
when the going gets tough, and the stomach acids flow.....
I am a little deflated I suppose. I don't care about Pikmin and I don't have Mario mania like the rest of the world, and mini games are not my style. No game was shown that got me counting down the days though I admit there is still time.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.
What Would Duane Do? Rynoggery
It is what it is. I was keeping somewhat modest about it. The people who are complaining or really dissatisfied are the ones with high expectations. E3 isn't even over yet. Hell, it's only June. There's still TGS and other shows and announcements later down the line this year.
That's what happens when you add optimism in your life.
dont forget that when the N64 finally arrived there were only three launch games IIRC. And im sure Nintendo did not show all their cards, they've got more games in development

I'm seriously beginning to wonder if EA and Ubisoft paid Nintendo to have more presence in Nintendo's presentation. Whoever planned and managed the budget for this year's presentation for Nintendo seems like they were "bought out". Microsoft and Sony's E3 presentations are "impersonal", and Nintendo's presentations seem to have been influenced from their competitors, from the perspective of this 90's kid.
The manufacturer shows are supposed to be all about exciting announcements of top-notch products and brief explanations of tech, using a unique presentation that utilizes aspects of game design. A good example of this actually existed in the beginning of today's show, even if it was a bit awkward. It's just that most of today's show should have been saved for tomorrow.
I enjoy watching Nintendo's E3 presentations for their unusual diversity and whimsy. In E3 2010, they didn't need to hire 50+ women to strap on a 3DS so the audience could play with them, but that certainly put a big grin on my face. Today's Pikmin 3 reveal also did, without a massive payroll. I'd like to see more of that, and less of the "plain" showcases of Just Dance 4 and SiNG.
Deflated? No Underwhelmed? Yes. Now I have had time to think about it it isn't even the fact that the games they concentrated on either looked pretty poor and/or was already known about. No the problem I have is that the uses of the new controller were so poor. i basically got maps, inventory, maps, look through the screen to look around the TV screen (err my eyes can already do this), err maps and maps. whoopee. The best game they shown was probably Pikmin 3 and that has been designed to use the Wiimote/Nunchuck!! Sorry I just don't see the revolution with this Gamepad.
Nothing graphically blew me away so having a 360 why do I need a WiiU at launch. Answer - I don't (unless they surprise me with a new F-Zero!!)
Not wanting to seem negative just my view is all. :

Their conference had a little too much birthday party vibe to me, with all the streamers, & decorations.
