I don't know about you Nintendy' goober heads, but i'd definitly love to experience my Wii U gaming in Phanto-fabulous & Striking '3D'..The 3DS has already blown me away with the technology and i'd absolutely love to get it on the Big screen with the 50-55" 1080p 3D Panny' plasma i plan on picking up before the Wii U launches this Holiday. B-) Iwata mentioned around a year ago that the Wii U would be supporting 3D but that it's not the main focus. Yet 3D wasn't mentioned at all during E3.... Here's what he had to say!

Quotes from Iwata a while Back...

"If you are going to connect Wii U with a home TV capable of displaying 3D images, technologically, yes, it is going to be possible, but that's not the area we are focusing on," he explained.

"When it comes to 3D, we already have the 3DS, and each owner of the Nintendo 3DS is capable of viewing 3D images."

"And rather than pouring a lot of energy into that kind of area, with the Wii U we'd like to focus more on each Wii U owner being able to have an equal opportunity to enjoy it."

I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I don't really care about 3D so it doesn't matter to me.
On the other hand, my new TV coincidentally supports 3D (although I never watch anything in 3D), so I guess having the option could be nice.

I have an extremely hard time going back to 2D with 3DS games(RE: Revelations especially), i just can't do it. :p Depth perception is natural & realistic, so to not have it just makes the image look flat. Movies on the other hand are hit and miss. If it's post conversion 3D that's it's practically gauranteed to look lousy, but if it's shot in 3D than you'll most likely be in for one hell of a ride. Truth be told I could care less about 3D I dont ever play with the 3D on on my 3DS but thats cause I get really bad migraines from viewing things in 3D. If they do though I hope there will be an option to turn it on and off like the 3DS.

I'm not wearing special glasses just to watch 3D. It's not that important to me, and I have an imagination.

To me, videogames, along with cinema, are the right medium for 3D and the only areas where I can see it flourishing, given (bar the hardcore few) for many the screen time for gaming and cinema is just a few hours, compared to the constant exposure to TV in day to day life

I would love to play a good shooter on the Wii U, with the zapper, on a huge 3D screen. I'd look a dick though

I don't mind wearing those shnazzy 3D Shutter glasses. :p
ZombiU would benifit greatly with that awesome 3D depth the same way RE: Revelations did in first person mode.....Set to 'very strong' in first person with the slider maxed was absolutely amazing imo, too bad i wasn't experiencing it on the big screen as it would of made a world of a difference...For me it's tough gaming playing 3D 'world' polygon based games in 'flat' 2D after experiencing what the 3DS's stereoscopic 3D is capable of. You get used to it though obviously.

Anyways! ZombiU, Pikmin 3 and Nintendo Land especially would all be great with 3D technology. Shutter glasses now do full HD in each eye in comparison to Passive glasses that knock down the resolution. On an HDTV, I've only experienced Passive 3D glasses which are inferior, but even so the 3D effect i witnessed was amazing when watching an underwater fish based 3D Bluray demo that BestBuy...The Fish was swimming right out of the screen. MotoStorm was also on display for the PS3 including a few other things. Overall, when done 'right' I'm all for 3D. :D Depth perception is only natural and it just makes sense to have it. It delivers a far greater sense of immersion and you feel like you're looking through a virtual window into another world. B-)

I do not have a 3D TV nor nothing, so it won't affect me in the slightest, but I believe Nintendo should support the 3D effect, I mean, it's a new-gen console, the PS3 who is a generation lower than the Wii U supports 3D, and Wii U is supposed to be superior, so it should support 3D and do stuff the PS3 and Xbox 360 never did.

Patience is good to a certain extent buddy... until it reaches ridiculous.

I'd love it since the next TV we get will be 3D, But it's still near the bottom of the wish list.

Even Sony have moved away from the 3D thing somewhat! Sure developers will support it but it has yet to prove itself as a feature that sells more game units!

But you loose the refresh rate and the glasses cost a fortune. I think it's a pretty easy choice between 1920x540 @ 100Hz with glasses that cost $28AU for a pack of four or 1920x1080 @ 50Hz with glasses that cost $100AU a pop. When it comes down to it active glasses screens are the winning tech mostly because it doesn't need a modified screen.

I like 3D gaming but only because its without glasses and close to me. There is very low chance that I'll buy a 3D TV and get the rip off annoying uncomfortable silly glasses. Happy to have the 3DS.

I heard Nintendo was going to release this sweet new game called Rad Racer and it is supposed to have some great 3D technology. They are even going throw in a pair of 3D glasses in the box that the model below is displaying! I am definitely going to get it!

Man, that Rad Racer's just too Rad for my Cosmo berries. I'm getting Rad, all over that Racer! B-) :p
Why i don't have the original NES cart still baffles my bogus borritos. It goes for oh so' cheap, and Lucas from the Wizard approves! "I love the Power glove, it's so bad!" This is the only racing game I'll ever need haha.

@Skywake

Ahhh i see. Well it seems like both Passive and Shutter are flawed. I've read some info and comparisons on both of them and passive tends to get most peoples vote. They're lighter and more comfortable to wear, they boast a higher refresh rate and much more affordable price. But the downside is that the resolution gets knocked down...That to me would annoy me as far playing wii games. You get '3D' but in sacrifice 720p gets sliced down to a less crisp/fuzzier image and I don't think i could deal with that.

Shutter apperantly doesn't seem to do that(correct me if I'm wrongzy') but like you said you lose out on the refresh rate....Sigh* Either way, I'm getting a 50" or 55" Panasonic UT 1080p Plasma before the Wii U launches so I'll have the 3D Technology(This particular sets uses Shutter glasses) No wonder the technology isn't fully supported by consoles. Not only do most people not have 3D sets in their homes, but the 3D tech itself weather you go Passive or shutter is flawed.

Sweet. I've played Motorstorm on the big screen in 3D and the depth perception it gave off just made the experince look and feel more, realistic, dynamic and fun. It's almost like looking through a window into a virtual world. B-)

If 3D Active Shutter glasses knock down the frame rate in half, than i don't think I'll be bothering with 3D for the Wii U. Maybe just for kicks, but that's very dissapointing that you have to sacrifice something like that in order to get 3D... but at least shutter glasses retain that crisp HD resolution unlike Passive, but 'Passive' delivers a proper frame rate.It all depends on what HDTV you buy and which 3D glasses technology supports....Either way, both tech's aren't perfect.

Eh, expensive, flawed 3DTVs are expensive and flawed. Give me a mode that let's me use these babies, Nintendo! :D

By the way, I thought Nintendo wanted 3D gaming to be glasses free, and they were just pointing out that the Wii U could do 3D if they wanted it to. I don't see it happening.
