Eh I'm keeping my Wii anyways until Nintendo figures something out about GCN games...don't want to get rid of them and I don't want to repurchase them. :/

I plan on keeping my wii. I'm something of a retro game and console collector. I hardly ever use the backwards compatibility stuff because I still own the old systems. Nothing quite better than playing gamecube games on an actual gamecube, same with n64, nes, snes games.

I believe they said it would include one.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Yes, it's a tired subject.

Agree with iphys, I got my cable for $4.00

I'm definitely going HD in the living room. However, the TV in my bedroom isn't HD. Besides, some people buy systems for the games they can bring, not the picture quality. Perhaps this is a great thing for them.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.

Ya, i could never imagine selling any of my Nintendo consoles either. What should be cool however is playing Wii games on the Wii U through it's HDMI connection which should provide a brighter, more crisp picture. At least that's the case on my HDMI Wii adapter(Too bad the colors looks super limey on it) I rarely ever use backwards compatibility either, but I don't have a set of gamecube component cables(which go for a hefty $100-$150) on eBay and that's IF you have the oldschool GCN model that supports it. As is, i'm not forking over that kind of cash for a cable, so I'll just settle playing them on my Wii for now. boooo.

I hear you about the gamecube component cables. Lucky I got one back in the day when they were shortly available. As far as the wiiu upscaling and making wii games more crisp, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the system wont be doing that at all sadly. I just cant wait for the WiiU to launch. Hopefully I can find one. Every place was sold out on preorders before I could get one time remaining...: 1month 8days!!!

Trade it in anyway. That's what i did with my old 360 when i traded it in towards a 360Slim; the 360 had a disc drive problem where it would spin and spin and spin and rarely (basically never) read that a disc was present.. They didn't check the disc drive by putting in a disc at all, just powered it up to see if the system worked in general.

I was going to keep my Wii, but I'll be selling it so I can get some money back, plus I'd also have my Wii downloads on an account rather than have them tied to the console itself. I'll let my cousin hold on to my Gamecube games because he also has a GC compatible Wii, and he doesn't plan on getting himself a Wii U anytime soon.

A HD game going through composite will look horrible and text will be hard to read, I've seen people use the Xbox 360 that way. and for those who have HD TVs and are still using composite instead of component.... WHY???

I'm not saying this is the 100% recommended way to play Wii U. I'm just saying the composite cable may be useful to people who are in it for the games and GamePad experience, but don't have an HD TV. I, personally, have two TVs. One is for the whole family and it is HD. During the school year, my games are in there so I can focus on schoolwork. My second TV is in my room (during holidays) and it isn't HD. I would like to be able to play my Wii U in my room during the holiday, but if the composite cable wasn't compatible, I wouldn't be able to do that.

Nice eyes, man. I never would have noticed, since I have 2 HDTVs in my home. You've saved a lot of people from being annoyed.

If they don't have an HDTV, and they already have a Wii, then yes, it does make sense.

I have many friends who play the other HD consoles without HDMI cables because the only thing they care about is the games. Besides, if it wasn't compatible with the Wii's, people would gripe and complain about having to buy one however inexpensive it may be. With people on this site whining about OPTIONAL stuff that's fairly cheap/priced, I thought something that actually SAVED you money would be welcomed.

I can still hear people fussing over the Pokedex 3D Pro being $15 even though you don't have to buy it, the CPP not being included on the 3DS XL even though 5 games use it, and the Wii U costing more than $200.
