This isn't 100% confirmed (as far as I know), but it looks as though the Wii U is compatible with the Wii's Composite Cable. It may not give you the best quality image, but if it is compatible and you don't have to buy another, keeping your Wii may prove to be more useful than originally thought.

I own a GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), and Wii U
I used to own a PS1, GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I hope it is. Chances are, when I move out sometime soon, I'll be stuck with my little TV. Being forced to buy another component/composite cable would be hell. I seriously hope it is compatible.

...but won't it come with one of it's own? Or are they actually doing the sensible thing and including an HDMI cable right out of the box?

The Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and Gamecube all had the same video out plug. It makes switching between playing the different systems very convenient. Although I'm not sure why you'd want to switch between Wii and Wii U. Well, for gamecube support, I guess.

There is an HDMI cable, but they don't include (or at least include on the box) composite cables for people who don't have the luxury of an HD TV.

@DudeSean It wasn't switching between the two I wanted. I wanted to know if I could play the Wii U on a simple little TV with the Wii's composite cables instead of running out to get the HD TV.

Oh, I see. I forgot the Wii U didn't come with a composite video cable. Well, I'll be keeping my Wii, anyway, so it sounds good to me.

I noticed Nintendo said the Wii U would be compatible with most Wii games. I wonder what's not going to play on it.

Well they said the same thing about DSi/DS backwards compatibility on the 3DS and Gamecube backwards compatibility on the Wii. The only games that didn't work were ones which required extra hardware or were small little bits of DSi system software. Flipnote studio and Donkey Konga being the obvious examples. So when they say "most" hardware and software will be supported don't be surprised if we lose the Nintendo Channel, the Internet Channel, Check Mii Out and Everybody Votes etc. Also don't be shocked if they drop Wii Speak support entirely for example.

So that's probably what they mean when they say "most"

Nice to see the Wii U runs on the same composite cable as the Wii but I'm finally upgrading to a HDTV for the Wii U.

Wasn't there another DK game for the Wii that used like, bongos or something? Or was that GCN only?

I love Erica (Strike Witches), Eureka (Eureka Seven), and Tenma (School Rumble), stay away from them. xD
Update: Also love Yukari and Mizore from Rosario + Vampire.
Another Update: Also Yuuki...from School Rumble...
Yet Another Update: Also Amber and Xiao Pai from Rune Factory 4.

It was originally for the GC and came with the bongos and then it got released again on the Wii as a NPC but replaced by waggle :-)

If you don't have an HDMI connection for your screen, then yeah, you'll want to use your Wii cable, but if you really want to sell your Wii, you can buy another cable for a few bucks on eBay. I own the composite, S-video, and component video cables for the Wii, so I have no shortage of those things. I'm planning to keep my Wii anyway though to finally use it for nefarious purposes that I've resisted using it for in the past — also, in case I ever want to play GameCube games on it, or the Wii U breaks and I want to play my Wii games still.

I'm going to contain my incredulity at the notion that someone would even bother buying Wii U without going HD.
Yes, it's a tired subject.

Agree with iphys, I got my cable for $4.00

When the Wii U shows up, my Wii is going to be subjected to the basement on the old TV (after I transfer my VC/WiiWare games of course).

Seems like an odd reason to keep your Wii because of an easily obtainable inexpensive cable? I will keep my Wii well, because I keep my consoles.
