I don't feel like it does. From the sounds of it, it'll be a varied type of party game that won't adhere to just the board game, uses ALL Animal Crossing Amiibo (and possibly some others) and doesn't cost you a cent to download. Heck, there may even be a non-Amiibo mode! We still don't know all that much about it. A few trailers or maybe just an official statement or two would clear this right up.

It's free to download? But aren't Animal Crossing Amiibo required or something? Just what is this game?

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

As we've discussed earlier, the software itself is free to download, but you need an amiibo for every player.

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.

In the board game, and likely in most, if not all modes, as it's called "Amiibo Party." I would be slightly surprised, though, if Nintendo hadn't included a mode or two that can be played without Amiibo.

A new trailer was revealed for the game, but it's in Japanese. Does anyone here Japanese?

Also a few new Animal Crossing Amiibos seem to also be being released as well. Probably to go along with the game, and they look pretty nice.

Well, so much for the ''other'' modes in this game... Mini-games locked behind amiibo.

The wonder if the main board game can be played with the cards or if it's restricted to the figurines.

I'm really up in the air on this one. I've always loved Animal Crossing (skipped HHD for now though actually) since the GC game, so the characters and world are familiar and everything, and I'm cool with them wanting to try different things with the series, but I'm having trouble justifying getting this when I already have every Mario Party game. This kind of looks like a slower, less interesting kind of Mario Party. It's always good to have easy going fun games to have for the wife and I, and sometimes a friend or two, but this is one of the few times Nintendo looks to be making a game that feels way more geared towards young kids than 'everyone' like most of their Mario and other games feel to me. Maybe they are banking on kids buying up all the amiibos and this is justification for it. I feel strange saying that since I'm usually not a big critic but... On a side note, anyone else notice even the person who gets last place gets a trophy? Not really sure that's deserved...

Some say the eShop download is free, is this true? Can you play this game with amiibo cards? I'm not planning to buy any AC amiibos, it would be fun to just try this game once and then switch back to Smash Bros. Quite a few of my friends own a Wii U but I don't know a single person who is actually excited for this.

It would be great if David Wise made soundtracks to all future Nintendo games.

@Luffymcduck: I believe the amiibo cards unlock mini-games, you need the regular amiibo to play the game.

PokeMario

I'm having a hard time believing the eshop version will be free. The bundle costs $60 and contains two $13 amiibo figures. It doesn't cost over $30 to make a box and a disc.

@PokeMario: 1 exclusive amiibo and 3 exclusive amiibo cards I believe. But still, if the eShop version is free, the bundle is still overpriced.

I admit I don't really understand what's going on in the gameplay video, but it kind of looks like a watered-down version of Fortune/Boom/Itadaki Street with weird minigames tacked on? If that's the case, I'm definitely in for this one! It would make sense; Tom Nook would approve.

(Although tbh I'm only here for the KK Slider amiibo otherwise).

No matter how much footage I see I just can't drum up any enthusiasm for this.

Especially seeing as I have no one to play with.

But aside from that it just looks painfully boring to play, with no skill, strategy or forethought required. It just seems like you grt carried along for the ride until the game decides whether you win or lose.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

The survival mode doesn't look half that bad actually. Still, a game with various modes locked behind either amiibo or amiibo cards, I find it quite difficult to even get slighty excited about that. If the survival mode didn't involve amiibo and was a stand-alone thing on the eShop, I'd gladly pay for that game.
