I want to know how these are going to work considering certain amiibo figures aren't represented in certain games, obviously. If you buy a Samus amiibo for Smash Bros. thats wonderful and all, but if Mario amiibos can be used in Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, and a multitude of other games, doesn't the Mario amiibo have a greater value?

I think it looks preety neat. This is the kind of stuff I wanted back in the N64 days, and it finally happened. I'm not really interested in Skylanders, but DI and this seem ok. I'll probably buy a Samus, Link, Fox, DK, Mr. Game & Watch, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Captain Falcon, Sonic, and maybe some other ones, depending on if there are anymore new characters that they haven't shown yet. So basically I'm just gonna buy all the characters I like the most, and leave it at that.

I had a dream last night where they announced Pokken Fighters, it was a tekken or street fighter-like fighting game but with pokemon. And it had a bunch of awesome looking amiibo figures of the fighters.

There was:

Blaziken
Emboar
Chesnaught
Machamp
Throh
Sawk
Hawlucha
Heracross
Infernape
Medicham

and a bunch of others. It looked really cool.

Yesterday, Tom from Miiverse shared some pictures of the amiibo figures as they were being put away at the end of E3. I thought I would share them here along with Tom's comments.

Untitled
"Immediately after E3 ended I was able to snap a few pics of the amiibo as the design team was putting them away. Sorry that they're a bit dark.
Here's DK. Just like in the Wii U game his fur is very important to his character."

Untitled
"Princess Peach. The patterns on her dress is very detailed and textured."

Untitled
"Fox. This one may very well be my favorite amiibo. Very, very detailed outfit. Even his eyepiece is made out of a clear material. And don't forget the fur!

They even nailed his determined look on his face."

Untitled
"Here's Pittoo, I mean Pit. Sorry again that these aren't the best pictures. They really look like the official art pieces came to life."

Untitled
"Group shot. Each amiibo has finished surfaces that matches their character. Samus has a sleek, glossy metallic finish that you'd expect from her suit. Her polar opposite is Kirby, who has a matte finish that proves he really is a puff ball in disguise.

Amiibo are quite dense, too. If you hold one you might be surprised by how substantial they feel. For example Kirby felt a lot heavier than he seemed."

Untitled
"And here they are, ready to be put back in a case. May be the next time we see them will be out on the store shelves?

I know I'll be getting more than one when they come out but I should start thinking about which one will be my go-to amiibo when I use it with my copy of Smash Bros....choices, choices.

Thanks for reading!"

These look great! Though I doubt I'll be getting any, (well, maybe Mega Man) maybe I'll get some for my nephews.

I like the idea that they will work across multiple games. But like someone previously said, As long as they are just a non-essential feature in a game, which they will be in the already announced games, it won't force kids (and their parents) to buy a ton of figures, and thus will only be for collectors.

For this to take off they need software that is directly dependant on these amiibo figures, where the figures feed directly into the software.

Hence, the unannounced software Bill Trinen was referring to:

For instance, a pokemon game where your pokemon roster is only from the physical figures you have / have traded with friends. Could be like a Pokémon stadium game where you either import your roster from a 3DS game, or your amiibo's. Gives players the possibility to interact with the game, even if they don't own a 3DS! And that gives a way for friends who own a Wii U, but maybe not a 3DS and vice versa, to interact with each other across platforms.

And that right there, is actually a pretty interesting concept I think.

For things like Mario Kart 8 I can imagine custom vehicles and costumes. Nothing significantly game changing though, so it might only be cosmetic things, or the vehicle stats correspond to stuff already in the game.

The "collect em all" nature of pokemon though, THAT right there is the money maker.

For Yoshi's Wooly World, I could imagine a bunch of really nice knitted plush yoshi's, you know like actual wooly yoshi's! Could be a nice switch up from the static (but beautiful) smash figures with the smash coin base.

About $10-$15. Official word from Reggie is that they will be comparable in price to the Skylanders and Disney Infinity figures which is where those price estimates come from.

Imagine a Wii u game which plays like tomodachi life but with your amiibos, and they get basic actions but get more events and traits based on what games you use them with, like maybe after using the Mario one on Mario kart he starts driving around places or racing

Seeing Amiibo's interact with MK8, Cpt Toad, and Yoshi's world, I wondered if by using an Amiibo gives you a DLC track/level themed by the character you use. For example you could use Link and get a Hyrule themed racetrack in MK8, or use the Wii Fit trainer on Yoshi and get a Wii Sports style level. This would echo what Sega did with the Sonic LW DLC with Zelda and Yoshi.

If this was the case, I could see myself buying these figures for more tracks just for MK8.

I believe that it was confirmed at E3 that series 1 of these things will include:

Mario
Peach
LInk
PIkachu
Donkey Kong
Samus
Wii Fit Trainer
Villager
KIrby
Yoshi

Personally, I think it's kind of weird that NIntendo is starting out with Villager and Wii Fit Trainer, as most casual costumers will probably not care about those characters, and there will be tons of them left over on store shelves. Starting out with the Mario characters, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu was a smart idea though, because their franchises are HUGE. Samus could go either way though. I see some casuals that recogize her, and some who don't. I personally will be starting off series 1 with Samus and KIrby. Then eventually I'll get Link and Mario. I really wanted PIt, but he's probably in series 2 with Marth, Zelda, and Fox.

I don't know how far Nintendo is willing to take the crossover aspect. Ultimately, each developer of the amiibo-supporting games will decide how to use them. Sakurai is using them like training pets for Smash Bros., while Tezuka and Good-Feel of Yoshi's Woolly World will do something differently.

Yeah, I wish these figures would allow you to make crossovers if you want to. The Pit figure would allow you to receive the Beetle from Kid Icarus: Uprising as a kart, for example. Things that like that would be awesome, but I'm just not sure if Nintendo will do things like that, much less having Kirby be a new racer in Mario Kart 8 or a new Kirby track. It's possible, but I just want Nintendo to clarify this more. Right now the concept of using these figures across multiple games is exciting, but very complicated. Could I use the Donkey Kong figure in Yoshi's Woolly World? If not, what else is it good for other than Smash Bros., and what does it do in the other game or games? And what about the Mii figure and the third-party figures of Mega Man, Sonic, and Pac-Man? Do they have any functionality in the other games or not? Hopefully you know what I'm getting at.

Hopefully NIntendo can get the rights to even DO the third party characters as amiibos. I'm really suprised that Sonic isn't in the first series, as he is a very popular character with kids.

Wow, those pictures look awesome. At least at this stage of the game, the figures look extremely detailed and polished ... I hope that holds up when they start being mass produced. At any rate, I'm definitely buying ... uhm ... probably all of them lol

According to ShopTo, the amiibo figures can be pre-ordered for 12.85 pounds each, although Nintendo hasn't confirmed any pricing. Can anyone tell me what that would be in American dollars?

It's an interesting concept, but I don't like the example they gave for how they benefit the gameplay. The way they work in Smash Bros. makes it look like they just play the game for you. Have they mentioned what they do in other games?

I wonder if they'll make a customizable amiibo for the Mii's so you can carry all your stats from games like mk8, ssb or whatnot so if you go to a friends you can take it with you and pull up all your stats. That d be interesting.

That would definitely be in their best interest to set up some kind of service where you could place an order for your customized Mii Amiibo and get it in the mail after a couple weeks or something. They could charge more for that sort of service, and I bet a lot of younger kids would love to have something like that to carry around to friends' houses and instantly load up stats and stuff into games they play. For us older folks it would also be a nice little collection piece haha
