If your a regular person get the PS4 cause when you buy that system it automatically makes you a man.But if you buy the kiddy console called the Wiiu, then your going to be a kid forever, god can't they grow up?

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Buy the console, and be welcome to the family.

I just bought a Gamecube...

Yep, you totally missed out on those games, because games are only sold the day it's released and once that day is over, they take the unsold copies to a secure vault, never be seen again.

Woah what a sad fate for all those unsold copies.

Yeah I'm not getting this whole "missed out on games" idea you seem to have. It's not like they've stopped selling them. They're sitting in Gamestops all around you right now, just waiting for you to pick them up.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

The day when a person becomes a man is the day they start complaining that they miss being a kid.

They have another vault for the used games people sold as well.

I kinda get the "ZOMG I don't want to put down money for a new platform just before the next-gen hits". It's a fair point. That said, Wii to Wii U? The difference in that the jump from SD to HD? I don't think it'll ever be that big again. You look at Galaxy and think "They just need to bump up the textures a bit, add some less janky effects and kill some of the jaggies and it'll be...."

"yeah, something like that"

If tomorrow they came out with a Wii U2 (which was free and automatically installed itself under your TV) which was twice as powerful as the PS4? You wouldn't be missing out on much. You'd see some of the more realistic style games start to appear on it sure, but the next big Zelda, Mario or Metroid? They wouldn't be that much more impressive.

I dunno, I'm still recommending the PS3 over the PS4 to people. There's just so much more value there.

I tend to suggest that people lean more towards PC for the same reason. PS4/XBOne are nice and shiny, they have their cool new games but the back catalogue isn't that deep. PS3/360 are less shiny, have less games on the horizon but have this massive library of games. If you get a PC you can have both.

The only problem with the PC though is that you're not getting the exclusives. Though personally the only exclusives I really care about are the ones on Nintendo's platform. So PC + Wii U. Done.

dude, it's not even too late to pick up an SNES. you think the time for a console to be fun expires or something?

i feel sad for people to get sucked into this "upgrade" culture - buying a console because everyone else is. go get what you want and enjoy it mate

That's far too logical for an Artwark thread.

I personally don't care for realistic visuals unless you're a Resident Evil or Silent Hill.

Even in its cartoony world, Nintendo now has its own product line of games with artistically-treated realistic visuals (such Kirby's Epic Yarn, Yoshi's Wooly World and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse). Games like Paper Mario could benefit hugely from HD in the future, so the visuals can actually look like paper.

Things like paper and wool, that's more about texture resolution and at this point they're starting to get to the point of seriously diminishing returns. Especially for games that are primarily in 2D. The area where things are still progressing rapidly is with shadow detail, lighting and the really fine details. Something which games like Mario where the camera is well back and where the lighting is usually fairly simple? Less of a deal. For a something built on atmosphere like Metroid or something attempting to be more of a movie like The Last of Us? They can always push it further.

I'm just worried that I'll be missing on some games like how I missed Shake It, Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii. I mean things are looking pretty good for the Wii U and I don't want to miss all the fun.

Another problem I have is that I need to get a UPS for the system since my place has frequent power cuts and then getting a better table so I can get more space to put in the games. So what's the problem here? I have to talk this to my parents and they are so narrow minded that if I tell them the UPS will protect my Wii U from any bricking, my Dad will claim that a surge protector will be good enough for that to happen and I can't risk that because if bricking happens, It'll damage the system and that I would have to buy a new one all over again.

I did try to ask around last year but at the time, they calimed it wasn't there and that its expensive and now they are telling me to get it myself with my own cash. I'm worried because I don't know if I'll get a job and if I do, it should be so that the Wii U is still alive and that the next gen won't be there at all.

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

Both Yoshi's Wooly World and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse are 2.5D with shadows and focal depth (specially Yoshi's Wooly World). IMO, they are entering an area where realism and attention to realistic visual details are much more important than in the Kirby's Epic Yarn, which was a flat bitmap game presentation.

A UPS is overkill, surge protection will do the job. Unless you're installing a firmware update and the power cuts out in the middle of it it's unlikely there will be any damage. The only time I'd really suggest to get a UPS is for something where power outages are pretty serious issues. I have a UPS and I have my NAS and all my network gear on. Even then it's mostly so that the internet can keep running for a couple of hours while the power is out. Which is useful.

@skywake what about during saving in games if the power goes out? Then I have to format my save data and star all over.

In my place, power cuts while not frequent, can happen occasionally and while I can understand why surge protectors would suffice, The fact that a UPS is more safe just proves that I'd want one more than the surge protector. Also if the power goes off during the firmware update, it'll be screwed.
