Hey wanted to know if i'm the only one hoping that the console gets a redesign before it launches. I mean the wii was a really good looking console and this is an evolution of that bit this just looks more like a cheap Dvd player than anything else.
Was I hoping for too much? Was hoping they would build upon the desgin of the GC less Wii console. Using the smaller squarish model with soft non proturding hardware buttons. Something like a Mac mini or apple TV style wise.
Or even the alienware X51
I dunno if I was expecting too much but the wii was such a simple and good looking console thats still arguably the best looking today. (Though I have a softspot for the xbox and ps3 slim editions)
Were you expecting the Wii U Optical Disc to just sit somewhere without actually going into the console? Because the Wii U pretty much HAS to have a disc slot somewhere. And the Apple TV isn't big enough to hold a disc, too.

Mac mini has had a disc slot before as well as the alienware x51 I showed.
I don't know what you're talking about. Ignoring the placement of the sync button I think it looks better than the Wii design both of which are miles ahead of the alienware X51 pictured. Each to their own I guess.

I agree.
As I said before, I don't really care what my console looks like (apart from size and weight can sometimes be a factor if I'm going to be moving it between houses a lot), but as far as designs goes it's actually pretty decent.
I too wish the sync button was covered up, but the Wii U is still good enough for me. (P.S. I'm glad it doesn't have a bunch of ventilation stuff on top because that's where I'm going to set my Wii.)

I like how its curve-yer. But I did think the wii looked revolutionary with its rectangle shape and button grey holder and that awesome blue light, like a robot from the future.
But I do agree that the red sync button does kinda make it look ugly, like a toy or something.
I care about aesthetics, so the look of a console does matter to me. It affects my excitement level. For example, the N64 looked to me, at the time, like a futuristic machine. It looked new. It felt new. It felt like we were headed into the next millenium. The Gamecube was different, but it still felt modern. The Wii is an obvious Apple ripoff, as far as the outward style goes. The tilted stand and upright orientation were the real charmers, though PS2 was also unright-capable. So now we get the Wii U, and... it doesn't impress. I don't think it's meant to. It's all part of this minimalist movement, but the result is fans getting a watered-down design based on the previous console.
Given that Nintendo named the new controller after the original NES gamepad (everyone just called it a controller when I was little), it would have made sense for to use some stylistic cues from the NES design. At the very least, they could have used the color scheme. I would personally prefer for the case to be a bit more "meched out." Maybe something like the Batman Tumbler. These are just random ideas, but the point is that the Wii U machine is all substance with no style. It really isn't the next generation in aesthetics or hardware. The entire thing is based on that Gamepad, and even that looks like an Apple product.
Whats wrong with the sync button? I hated having to open the SD card slot just to press that thing, same with the back of the Wiimote. Now everything is on the front including the controller.
I'm underwhelmed but then again I find today's modern minimalist look boring and lifeless. Color would probably help my view some but the overall look just whispers snooze fest to me.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.

The Wii U looks better than the Wii IMO. And that Mac Mini whatever is ugly as hell, if the Wii U looked like that I would seriously reconsider buying it.
To the point that he 3DS is 'passable,' I agree with warioswoods. It looks so much better than any of the DS models, especially on the inside.
