Speaking of the free game promotion with Mario Kart I just noticed that the free Digital game actually counts as a purchase towards the digital deluxe promotion.
I got Wii Party U and I got credit for $39.99 and that triggered a $5 code.
So I am wondering is Pikmin 3 and NSMBU counts as $59.99? Does game and Wario count as $29.99?

[being a spirtual succesor to Xenblade, a massive and beautifull game that pushed the Wii's limits, it can hardly dissapoint.
That's the very definition of buying into the hype. I do it all the time — like, I would 100% buy a 3DS for Persona Q, if I didn't have one already — and sometimes I end up regretting it. So don't do what I do, be cautious, and just wait until those two games are actually out.
I just meant to say that they set standards and deliver on them. Their goal is to create the largest world on a WiiU and from what they have show that's pretty mich what they're doing. It's a second party develpor that got there chance on Wii and they deliverd big time. That's why I'm not worried about this, besides we're also talking Nintendo here. But you are right, a bit of caution is never bad.
At this point Monolith Soft is one of four or five companies that I trust to make a great game every time. They're in a point in their lifespan where they've been through the paces, are making intelligent choices like borrowing good elements from Western RPGs, but haven't been tainted by glory and money yet (like Bioware and Square Enix). If you're into JRPGs at all, there really isn't any better choice right now IMO.
To me, a huge risk would be buying PS4 or Xbox One for Mass Effect 4, FF XV, or Kingdom Hearts 3. All three series had very poor showings in their last iterations. I'm sure not everyone agrees, but for me, if it comes down to potentially buying a system for a yet-released game, the system with Monolith on their side is going to win every time...until they become like Square Enix T_T I don't want it to happen...but I never thought it happen to Bioware either...
I bough the WiiU for...well, for the WiiU in general really.
Just the fact that its a new nintendo system and that known and loved franchises WILL eventually hit the system was enough reason for me.
And so far, i havent regreted the purchase in the slightest

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I like the 2D Mario's better, so when I heard about the deluxe bundle for $259.99 (for 2 days only last Fri and Sat) at best buy including Super Mario Bros U and Super Luigi U I jumped on the deal. Then got Mario Kart 8, and downloaded Pikmin 3 for free, So $320 for the deluxe set + 4 games. I don't regret it one bit.
Since then got a couple pro controllers, Super Mario 3D World, DK Country Tropical Freeze, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Mass Effect 3, Resident Evil Revelations, a USB to wired network adapter, Amazon Basics Case for the Gamepad.Going to be a fun weekend. Only other game i want this year is Smash Bros (pre-ordered). Next year, Splatoon, Kirby, Yoshi, and Zelda.
Some of the sellers on Amazon, where the order is fulfilled by Amazon, have great deals on new games, much better than Gamestop, Bestbuy, or Walmart.
I had to wait to buy until I thought there was a good deal that I would enjoy and you should too. Maybe a Smash Deluxe bundle is what you need to make the purchase.
Are you looking forward to Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (even though there's little information about it)?
Yeah, honestly I could do without the X SMT part, but whatever. I heard that the producer said that things are still going well on that game, so I am super hyped. Fire Emblem is Fire Emblem, even if it's a crossover. I'll take it. Love it!
I could do without the Fire Emblem x. I enjoyed Shin Megami Tense IV I so much more than I did Awakening. Fire Emblem is a great series, no doubt about it, but I definitely prefer Shin Megami Tensei if the 4th game is a good representation of the series.

It's gotta be this, in the end. What causes you to pull the trigger is moot, there's no point in buying a console you don't want.
There wasn't a single game that sold me on the system. I hadn't owned a console in ages, and neither the PS4 or the XBoxOne interest me at all (I have no desire to pick up a console just to play games that look better on my PC). But the Wii U was interesting, had several titles I was interested in and would also grant me access to the Wii library of games, which I had skipped.
You definitely shouldn't buy a console for only one or two games, though.
It's a second party develpor that got there chance on Wii and they deliverd big time.
That's true. That game should have sold millions of copies. No idea why it didn't, to be honest...
No idea either. I would like to blame Nintendo of America for only putting 500k copies into circulation (and seeing as how finding a new copy is pretty much impossible, I'm assuming virtually all of those 500k copies got sold), but America was actually the game's largest market. Europe and Japan, who both saw a much more open distribution, took little interest in the game.
It's because the game was never planned to be released out side of Japan and EU. It was because of the huge voice fans had that Nintendo decided to bring it to America. But they didn't want to take a risk so the game released but limited. That's why all the voice actors in the game are britisch and scottisch. Up to then NA wasn't really big on JRPG's and it was a risk, one that payed off in the end.
Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am
I bought mine in April 2013 and have no regrets. It didn't even bother me that the price dropped by $50 just a few months later b/c between my brother and me, we played it for close to 300 hours. That said, if MK8 didn't pump your nads, then you might as well wait a little bit longer. It's a good time to own a Wii U but it will be a great time to own one in Dec. with Bayonetta, Smash, Toad's treasure tracker and several more in the pipeline
I can't say I bought the Wii U for a specific game, I just bought it because I like the direction Nintendo's going this generation (mainly AWAY from motion-based controls), and I'm a huge fan of the gamepad. So, actually, the hardware itself is what sold me on the system, and I still play it just as much as my Xbox One and PC.
I bought my Wii U for NSMBU and Nintendoland....I played the heck out of both those games.
Maybe I am not your typical gamer because I don't have tons of free time for gaming but the Wii U titles have been coming out fast enough to keep me occupied. I actually have quite a backlog of games on my Wii U that I want to play more.

Thanks, one more question: Since I have my NNID linked to my Wii U and 3DS can I redeem my $5 codes on either console and then have the funds available on both?
I think I am going to get Shovel Knight but I think I want it on my Wii U instead of the 3DS but I am here at work with my 3DS so I am thinking of redeeming my codes now and then buying it on Wii U later (because its easier to look up the codes on the computer and enter on the 3DS than looking up the codes while using my Wii U)

For the most part I only play an hour a day. Maybe a little more on the weekends. I hear you tho on the amount of games. I have tons and a few I haven't even opened/played.
True. But the Mario Kart 8 promotion is like one of the better deals imo. Especially if you get the bundle.
You don't think there'll be a better deal later on? Buy one game get a game is good, but it's not a once in a lifetime deal.
I doubt we'll see a promotion comparable to this for the remainder of the Wii U's lifetime.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
