Topic: Advertise and the Wii U will benefit.

I've heard Nintendo complain about retail outlets not understanding the product and not being able to sell it and I've also heard them complain about lack of 3rd party games to support the system, but I honestly think Nintendo would benefit from some commercials as well as some print advertising. You can advertise online or in game magazines all you want but you need to move into television and popular magazines/newspapers and think outside of the box a bit. Remember classic NES and Genesis ads on TV back in the day? I sure do, but I can't tell you about any specific Wii U based commercials I've seen since it's launch.

Make a few commercials to show off the games and air them during popular football games or on Cartoon Network or Nick and get people of all ages excites and involved.

Games alone can't save the Wii U, but an advertising presence that would lead to consumer awareness can.

Commercials + ads in major newspapers like WSJ or NYT would certainly help, and of course there is always 3rd party exclusives.

The Wii U needs advertisement so darn bad, it needs to be advertise in ads during the soaps and X factor.
Also needs better demos in Game and maybe some in the bigger supermarkets.

Yes because millions of viewers on Nintendo Direct, ads at these retailers who "don't understand it", internet ads everywhere, and sites like Nintendo Life are not enough. Oh wait, commercials! Because commercials are the only form of advertising?

Not the only form of advertising, but the most effective. Bar none. Again, games aren't enough at this point and awareness is needed.

I disagree so much. What research suggests that commercials are the most effective? The Wii U had commercials at its launch...and still failed after two months. Without games, there's nothing to advertise.

Whether you agree or not Nintendo's Wii U needs some kind of mindshare and that is something that advertising can bring to the table. Games alone aren't going to do it, you could have a thousand amazing games to play on your system but if nobody knows your console exists than you might as well have no games to play on your system. It's all about broadening your advertising target like they did with the Wii. They had Wii commercials and print ad's for kids that were published in kid friendly magazines and would air on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon that targeted to their liking and they had ad's that showed up in more mature publications as well as adult programming that catered to the adult crowd. People just knew about the Wii, it had a mindshare that Nintendo promoted for themselves that nobody could touch during that 2007-2010 time period that the console was experiencing a boom.

Unfortunately there is nothing anyone can say that can change that it's all about marketing at this point. Once Mario 3D World is out Nintendo needs to advertise like crazy and promote the console as much as possible, if they just focus on the existing video game crowd than I see a grim future for the Wii U.
