Wait, so a single year for a new console with terrible marketing doesn't automatically make Nintendo less successful than the company that would be in serious trouble if their new console wasn't dominating? Wow, it's almost like the console wars aren't the most important thing ever or something...

I don't think wireless sound systems will make traditional sound systems obsolete. They're too expensive for the common consumer to buy. I think sound bars have more of a chance of making traditional setups obsolete, than wireless ones. Sound bars could technically be wireless and have all the decoders built into them. The only thing that would matter, by that time, would be the quality of said sound bars that have everything already inside them.
What are you talking about? You can get really cheap portable bluetooth speakers for as little as $10 and they go all the way upto $1000 or more. The Sonos and BOSE stuffs I mentioned is right in the middle price range and about the same price a reasonable stereo used to sit. Soundbars? What is a soundbar if it's not just a speaker that you happen to plug into your TV?
What I was saying was that Sony used to be one of only two or three players in that space and they had quite a reputation. Now you walk into the audio section of an electronics store and it's full of wireless speakers. Everyone else started putting out wireless speakers and Sony just kept trying to sell the same sort of product. So now they're nowhere near as dominant as they once were.
Congrats on getting sucked into the SCAR392 Vortex! This thread went from being on topic discussing if Sony was a failing company, to a technical discussion on the merits of various speakers...

TBH, its a very short frame to call a winner or "loser" in this gen.
Shouldn't be surprising to anyone. Nintendo tries to profit of off everything they make, even the consoles (which both MS & Sony usually lose money on).

Doomed in video game industry = Things are changing and we are to short sighted to see that it is in fact change
Lets ALL just hope it is not changing in the wrong direction.
I don't want gaming to totally shift to phones..if that happens bye gaming for me. Or maybe hello PC? I dunno but I won't fall for the mobile phone gaming fad.
Sony and Nintendo, get it together. Microsoft? Go burn. I won't forget what you tried to stick to the consumer.

So you made a thread to bash Sony because you felt it was unfair to say gloomy things about Nintendo and not Sony? I don't understand what useful purpose this thread serves. It's just seems like a "but it's not fair" thread.
As for the sales of wireless setups vs traditional setups and I know this'll be anecdotal. Around December 15th I went into one of my local stores looking for the SONOS Play 1. None anywhere to be seen. About half a week before Christmas I went in again and they have a good 30 on the floor all stacked up. Just after Christmas I go in there again and they've only got maybe six left.
I know I'm talking about Perth and cashed-up-bogan central but it would appear that those units are fairly popular. Something which shouldn't be that surprising given the amount of prominence retailers have given them. Also Sony has made barely half a splash in that space, a space where they were once dominant. As I said, they have more pieces of kit in the traditional stereo section than they do in the wireless audio areas. And if you walk down to the traditional stereo section you can almost hear the crickets.

Are all of those things interchangeable and compatible with one another, though? I don't think so, and I'm not interested enough to read through 100+ product descriptions, but that's what I mean when wireless systems are 100% better, but they aren't capable/flexible enough to be beat out wired stuff.
Just imagine if you could hook up 9 wireless speakers and have them know where each other is located for accurate sound reproduction, and they can play any codec. That's why I'm saying that the stuff could be better, but it needs to be better than what's common and still meet somewhere close in price in order to be viable.
I know Sonos and such make compatible speakers, but I haven't read enough to know whether it goes higher than 5.1 like the Sonos(according to the product description).

Compared to Sony, Nintendo gets a lot of crap for asinine reasons.
