Although to be fair a lot of Sony's problems are outside of their console business. The PS3 and now the PS4 are their strongest products by quite a way. When you think about the things that Sony has traditionally been good at you'll notice that they're falling away in all of those areas. Their phones aren't as popular as they used to be, the traditional stereo is slowly being killed by wireless speakers from guys like BOSE and SONOS, if their portable music wasn't already DOA when the iPod launched it's certainly dead now everyone has a phone in their pocket. Plus lets not forget that they once dominated Digital Cameras and were trying to push a proprietary memory stick onto everyone..... where are both of those things now?
I don't think Sony is going anywhere soon and the Playstation itself is even less likely to go anywhere. They just need to scale back a bit and work out what products they should give up on. When's the last time you ever saw anyone buy anything Sony that wasn't a TV, Blu-Ray player, Surround Sound system or Playstation?

Not even close, SCE makes up a very small part of Sony... Financial services are Sony's strongest product now.
This is coming from a big Playstation fan. PS4 and the dying years of the PS3 have the potential to make a healthy profit for Sony though.
I don't think one division is profitable to benefit most divisions that are losing money. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony scales back or collapses and rely solely on just a few products

I don't think Sony is dying but I can't help but remember that article from Gameinformer that talked about Sony having to do 100 million dollars in cuts.

Sony TVs are rubbish compared to the competition though. A Samsung or Panasonic in the same price range is going to be much better quality.
I do love my Vaio though. It's the best laptop I've ever owned. And my headset, earphones, and sound system are all Sony, so I guess they're not pissing me off with their audio equipment, though I've never looked too much into that stuff. I'm no audiophile.

I was talking as a consumer in regards to the products that any of us would be interested in. I don't see them killing playstation, I do see them maybe killing off and/or scaling back their phone, camera, stereo and portable music products. Outside of the stuffs none of us care about Playstation is still their best performing product.
Although that said I did forget about their movies and music businesses. That stuff still makes money by the looks, so much for all of the ranting and raving from the RIAA and MPAA ey?
@Mr_Nose BWHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Diehard Sony fans shouldn't be the only people saddened by the news of Sony struggling. I'm sad about it, too and I'm not a diehard Sony fan.

It isn't news that Sony isn't doing as well as they probably should.

I don't think wireless sound systems will make traditional sound systems obsolete. They're too expensive for the common consumer to buy. I think sound bars have more of a chance of making traditional setups obsolete, than wireless ones. Sound bars could technically be wireless and have all the decoders built into them. The only thing that would matter, by that time, would be the quality of said sound bars that have everything already inside them.
I could see Sony turning away from PS if things don't go well with the PS4.

What are you talking about? You can get really cheap portable bluetooth speakers for as little as $10 and they go all the way upto $1000 or more. The Sonos and BOSE stuffs I mentioned is right in the middle price range and about the same price a reasonable stereo used to sit. Soundbars? What is a soundbar if it's not just a speaker that you happen to plug into your TV?
What I was saying was that Sony used to be one of only two or three players in that space and they had quite a reputation. Now you walk into the audio section of an electronics store and it's full of wireless speakers. Everyone else started putting out wireless speakers and Sony just kept trying to sell the same sort of product. So now they're nowhere near as dominant as they once were.

It all depends on what kind of setup you want. I just don't think wireless speakers are relevant enough to say that they'll be consistently successful, YET. Wired systems are more common, so the only way a wireless system would probably do better, is if everything just started being wireless.
That's what I think, because it will perform just as well if it's wired or not, so wireless ultimately doesn't impact a buyer as much as basically everything else.
EDIT: I'm basically agreeing with you, but wireless systems won't be more successful if wired is still more common, which it is.
