Topic: A petition for Nintendo to allow more RAM for games on Wii U for 3rd parties

Posts 1 to 4 of 4

As a huge Nintendo fan I have to say I was very disappointed when I saw almost all of the big next-gen multi-platform titles were not coming to the Wii U. There's a very long list of titles coming to PS4/Xbox ONE as well as PS3/360 and PC but not one Wii U. We were promised 3rd party titles and multiplatform titles and this was once again a let down.

We Nintendo fans need to stop being so complacent and actually ask for some more effort out of Nintendo. Some more ambition at getting their console as attractive to 3rd parties as possible in every way possible, not just by waiting for the sales to get better.

Look at how Sony and Microsoft are fighting for the attention for the 3rd parties. This is because 3rd parties are very important! They'd fill the gaps in time when Nintendo titles aren't ready.

So here's what I propose and hopefully you'll agree:

Allow 1.5-1.7 GB of RAM for games instead of just 1GB out of the 2GB on the system:

One of the most important things for these next gen titles is RAM, and the other consoles have a lot of it. If Nintendo can allow 1.5-1.7 GB RAM, that on top of the 32MB of eDRAM would give the console a lot of power to work with, and would close the gap a bit more with the Xbox One. Nintendo are listening in for what we want in the next Wii U update, this is one of the things I want, something that will improve the game experience.

Overclock the CPU/GPU, even if just by a little bit:

Again this goes into getting the power of the console up as much as possible to give developers as much power to work with as the Wii U can give.

I know graphics don't mean everything, especially to a company like Nintendo, but it isn't debatable that a lot of these 3rd party engines need a certain level of power in order to run on a console. Square Enix for example decided they couldn't put Kingdom Hearts on wii U for power reasons, same with Unreal engine 4 and many of the other next gen multiplat titles. Nintendo should be doing everything in their power to ensure the Wii U is as powerful and attractive as possible. With 2GB+32MB eDRAM total, the Wii U has a lot of power, but a lot of that power is being used on thigns that won't improve the gaming experience.

Let me know what you think. If you agree or if you think I'm a fool (which I'd understand). But I believe we Nintendo fans should work to get Nintendo to know that we'd like them to be aggressive at getting 3rd parties and that they should make it a priority. Specs do mater in that regard. I want to be able to buy one system to enjoy 1st party as well as 3rd parties on my favorite companies console just like Sony and Microsoft fans. I don't want to have to buy 2 just for multiplats.

It can be put on Wii U, but it would require a lot more effort than the other consoles, and for that reason alone those next gen unreal games will skip the Wii U for cost reasons and just put the games on everything else.

If it was easy for Unreal engine to be on Wii U it would be on their right now just like it is for the other consoles right off the bat.

Edit: Also it's not just ram, it's a combination of more than one thing, 1GB RAM+32mb eDRAM (Wii U) vs 5GB RAM+32m eSRAM (XBONE) vs 8GB GDDR5 (PS4) and a CPU that isn't quite the level of the competitors. And on top of that sales.
