First: Im all for Nintendo, but interested in the industry as a whole.
Thought you might want to know, PS4 has been unveiled toda - this is what Nintendo has to go up against.
I watched the press conference live and wrote up the facts for you!
Here's the writeup:
HARDWARE
- 8 cores of CPU
- 8 GB of DDR5 Ram
- High End GPU, built off PC specs to ease development (several generations ahead of the Wii U chip)
- 500 GB built in hard disk
- Controller looks great, including touch-area, share-button, headphone jack, motion controlls (3D in space with "lightbar")
- BIG focus on "developer friendliness" (I think this might be one of the most important things)
FEATURES
- fully integrated facebook/twitter/youtube and third party apps
- suspend mode, let console sleep, pick up and continue gaming without booting console
- PLAY downloadable games, WHILE you download them (streamplay)
- press the SHARE button on the controller to send the last 30 seconds of gameplay footage or your achievements/trophies to twitter/facebook/youtube, make gameplay videos and screenshots
- Personalized Home Space, with Info about your games, friends comments, etc... its a bit like ... "Miiverse" only with more "serious" user interface
- Playstation Network (their online thing) is said to be the "fastest gaming network" with PS4, cloud technology for any game, friendslist, voicechat, playeralerts (if they have new game, unlocked some achievement, ...), demos for EVERY download-only game (try before you buy)
- Spectate - watch the PROS play their games, share button lets you broadcast yourself, realtime, while playing... people can post on your screen as a response
- if you're stuck in a game, you can let some friend, over online, help you by controlling your game (like remoteplay) while watching realtime
- REMOTEPLAY - put your PS4 game onto VITA (via stream, just like Nintendos Gamepad) - they say it works with all games (in long term)
- Future goal: cloud-stream existing PS1, PS2, PS3 on your PS4/Vita (backwards compatibility no issue anymore)
- some way of integration onto many devices even outside of Vita, like iPad, iPhone, Android, ...
- Selfpublishing, completely open doors to indie developers!!
GAMES & DEVELOPERS
Graphics look absolutely mindblowing...
- Killzone Shadowfall: PS4-exclusive, typical futuristic shooter, absolutely stunning sets and visuals, with FAR viewdistances, ingame looks like prerendered video...

- infamous Second Son: PS4-exclusive, superhumans, stealth, security cameras, dystopian setting, looks disturbing but awesome.

- Capcom (this guy sucks!) shows history of ... Capcom, wth... showing all major games of the past briefly, he's praising Resident Evil series... pf..., shows new stunning engine for PS4, showing new IP "deep down" running on PS4 - looks incredible, looks like a third person dungeon crawler!
- Square Enix: Showing new "Illuminous"-engine for PS4, reaches movielike quality. Absolutely breathtaking. I've seen this trailer before though.Guy says PS4 is game developer's dream.
- Square Enix Final Fantasy brand director: FF title will be at E3
- Ubisoft: Guillemot takes the stage... Watchdogs, games will be played on many devices he says, live demo of Watchdogs open world, this looks like friggin movie, great ingame interaction and lightning effects, pedestrian ai looks natural, this is GTA evolved!
- Blizzard: strategic partnership for world dominance (jk), they'll bring Diablo III to PS3/PS4 (who cares, game sucks!), 4player coop on 1 screen (nice!)
- Activision: Bungie, will bring Destiny, big coop MMO-FPS, ingame footage, looks awesome and fun (even though not as next gen as other footage I've seen)
Release Holidays 2013
My neutral impression:
Impressive piece of hardware and it seems they have some kind of answer to any innovation of Ninty and awesome dev support!
But so far its just marketing talk, lets see if they deliver, and IF it matters...
(In my case: I don't care for any games on PS I've heard of so far)
