A few things: Steam is a joke of a publisher / developer with a crooked store that could only ever hope of chasing Nintendo's coat tails. The last game they made was Dota 2, a moba, in 2013. Newell is a petty little man, adored by a drooling meme-based fan base, who is harassing Code Avarice into poverty. Finally, Nintendo would never sell their entire company to a much smaller company in the states.

So take the PC master race wet dreams somewhere else, you still have to buy a wii u to play Nintendo games.

I hate relatively few things, chief among them is condescension; the structural pillar of PC elitism.

Some of my hates: People that can't read, and people who can't laugh.

I said merger, not acquire. I also have a WiiU. Nothing elitist at all, with my post. You, however, are filled to the brim with it. Let's look for your funny bone, though, as I think ya need a good laugh.

If I listened to the internet I would be trying to sleep while laughing... I mistook your topic for a serious one because it wasn't very funny. The first several replies did nothing to indicate the topic's frivolity. Furthermore, I don't understand how reacting to Newell meme culture with a mixture of horror and disgust makes me elitist. There's plenty of space between that and 'high culture'.

Finally, my objection to Steam is anything but elitist; it's based in consumer advocacy. Steam makes a profit off of a busy store with effectively no quality assurance or customer support. They also dominate the market, shutting out games that don't get on steam from 90% of their profits (unless you're minecraft). The console market is better for competition, as Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have a more reasonable, if not ideal, market share.

Can you prove that 90% thing? And how is their quality control that much worse than anyone else's? Meme Run just came out on Wii U, and horrible buggy game have been coming out on platforms for decades.

83% of the time, whenever someone gives a percentage in their argument on the internet, it is incorrect and they've pulled the number out of their rear. 56% of people know this.

I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Obviously it's a made up figure, mean to serve as an example, as I didn't provide a source. That doesn't make it any less difficult for developers who can't get on steam to sell their game to a big enough audience. Or any less arbitrary which games do get on steam.

Well for a start I think it has always been clear that the people at Valve and the people at Nintendo have a similar approach to things. They always push out high quality content, they come up with really innovative ideas and they will always delay something that's not ready rather than release. So when people cite their favourite games ever made it's no surprise that the lists you get are full of Valve and Nintendo titles. Not at all a suprise then that Gabe Newell has a lot of respect for Shigeru Miyamoto. I don't think that adds any at all weight to the OPs theory though, if anything that would run against Valve's open nature.

As for the whole spite against the "PC elitism". Do people realise that the vast majority of that is a joke? Memes by their very nature change the tone of discussion down to a parody. I mean if you get worked up as quickly as some did in this thread? Or if you watch a video like this and get your internet rant hat ready?

Something's wrong with you....

That was actually funny. Don't own a xbone so i'm good. As far as valve is concerned i stopped taking them seriously. feels like they will turn HL3 into the same crap where Duke Nukem forever took 14yrs to come out to amazingly awful reviews and gameplay. I heard about that game when i was finishing elementary school. Came out well after i graduated HS. HL3 released in 2030 when my 2yr old son graduates highschool. (-_-)

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Gabe say something about wanting HL3 to be episodic and that Episode 1 and 2 of HL2 were actually the first and second part of an intended HL3 trilogy?

For all this "where's HL3????" talk, I'm pretty sure that 67% of it is already commercially available.

On twitter. Note that he only tweeted that stupid message because he was so frustrated with the ridiculous method of getting an indie game onto steam. That and Maulbeck isn't the only one at Code Avarice. And Paranautical Activity is a good game.

Death threats are OK, but only if you're frustrated.

Gonna make ya look dumb, and list a few of the companies that have "gotten by" (sarcasm) for years, selling their games, on their own websites.

Paradox (HOI, EU, etc.)
Battlefront.com (Combat Mission series)
Matrix Games (publishes and develops wargames, as well as other game types now)
Spiderweb Software

And while it may be true that some games from these pubs and devs may be on Steam now, they didn't get big by doing that. They made a name on their own, and sold through their own website, for years, because I bought from them. They still do it, and only offer the games they want to offer on Steam, if they even do it at all.

So...stop trolling. You aren't very good at it.
