Topic: A look into the future, Valve and Nintendo, or how Gaben fooled them all with the long game to save Japanese gaming.

I think it's well known that Gabe Newell loves Nintendo, and it's games. Take this quote:

[q]Gabe Newell, the co-founder and managing director of the video game development and online distribution company Valve has confessed on the Geek A Week podcast that he absolutely adores legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto’s games.[/q]

http://mynintendonews.com/2012/04/07/valve-founder-gabe-newel...

So, let's just say that for this thread, this is fact: Gabe Newell has moved Valve into the hardware game, to make an acquisition of Nintendo, in say 10-20 years, easier. Hardware manufacturer can then produce Nintendo consoles, see how this works? But, let's set this aside for a minute, and move to how we get there.

Nintendo's next handheld and console will be their last. At least, their last traditional. After the next generation, of a unified console, and handheld development, Nintendo will realize the benefit of a stable platform (i.e. PC hardware). Looking to Valve, they work to create a proprietary Steam Machine, that runs a proprietary version of Steam OS. It will not run any PC games, just the normal Nintendo gems we have all come to know, and love.

This also makes Virtual Console, over someone's life, a reality. No longer will you have to buy a new machine, and wait for Nintendo to make a new emulator. Steam Machine hardware allows for power scaling, but the OS is essentially the same over the lifetime of the user.

In the end, both companies will merge, to create a super company that destroys the world with amazing, and beautiful games. Only then will a new Baten Kaitos, and Half-Life 3, be released.

The End.

Why do people think large scale mergers are ever a good thing? They aren't. They mean less competition, and less power in the consumer's hands. That's not good.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

Exactly, it means that developers can make crappy games and the consumers will have no choice but to put up with it if they want new games. The Ubisoft effect!

The Nintendo -> Namco one that got blocked would have worked out well for me.

Why are speculations about what happens after the next generation of consoles, 10-20 years from now posted in the Wii U forum?

Cuz there's no future speculation with a little humor forum.

A few things: Steam is a joke of a publisher / developer with a crooked store that could only ever hope of chasing Nintendo's coat tails. The last game they made was Dota 2, a moba, in 2013. Newell is a petty little man, adored by a drooling meme-based fan base, who is harassing Code Avarice into poverty. Finally, Nintendo would never sell their entire company to a much smaller company in the states.

So take the PC master race wet dreams somewhere else, you still have to buy a wii u to play Nintendo games.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

I hate relatively few things, chief among them is condescension; the structural pillar of PC elitism.

I was under the assumption that nintendo would rather die off than being sold to a non-japanese company.

I said merger, not acquire. I also have a WiiU. Nothing elitist at all, with my post. You, however, are filled to the brim with it. Let's look for your funny bone, though, as I think ya need a good laugh.

If I listened to the internet I would be trying to sleep while laughing... I mistook your topic for a serious one because it wasn't very funny. The first several replies did nothing to indicate the topic's frivolity. Furthermore, I don't understand how reacting to Newell meme culture with a mixture of horror and disgust makes me elitist. There's plenty of space between that and 'high culture'.

Finally, my objection to Steam is anything but elitist; it's based in consumer advocacy. Steam makes a profit off of a busy store with effectively no quality assurance or customer support. They also dominate the market, shutting out games that don't get on steam from 90% of their profits (unless you're minecraft). The console market is better for competition, as Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have a more reasonable, if not ideal, market share.

Can you prove that 90% thing? And how is their quality control that much worse than anyone else's? Meme Run just came out on Wii U, and horrible buggy game have been coming out on platforms for decades.
