Hello everyone. Thank you for reading. I got a few questions that I can't seem to find anywhere on Google or maybe I didn't search properly so I have decided to ask here.

I have the physical copy of the 3DS smash brothers and have registered it on club nintendo, but I have the digital version of Smash Brothers for Wii U. Will I still get the Mewtwo DLC?

My Wii U Hard drive is full. I have purchased Smash Brothers, but I can't download and install it thanks to my hard drive being full. I have the 32 gig one, but it is full thanks to monster hunter lol. I think it is pretty silly at how small the Wii U hard drive is. I am wondering is there a way you can buy a portable hard drive and store Eshop games that you have downloaded onto it? Is it easy to do? Also what portable hard drive would I need to look into to buy? Also do the games run just as good as the physical copy on a hard drive? I heard using a USB flash drive games can be very choppy and stutter due to the USB flash drive can't read the game files fast enough (I could be wrong though).

That is all for now. I am new to Nintendo products since I have been a PC gamer for a long time. I mainly bought the Wii U for Mario Kart 8, Smash Brothers and the new Mario Party game coming out. Thank you so much for reading. I look forward to your replies.

Edit Reason: I am in Australia so my Wii U is PAL I think in terms of region lock. Thought I may mention that even though it is probably not needed lol. Thanks!

Yes to the first question and for the question regarding storage, Nintendo has a FAQ page for it. Hop down to #8 and read from there forward. Post back if you need any clarification.

Hey buddy, welcome to NintendoLife!

In answer to your questions:

  • You should still get the Mewtwo DLC, as the digital version of Smash Wii U would be registered against your account. (provided your Club Nintendo account is linked to your Nintendo Network ID)
  • Any Portable hard drive should suffice (although flash drives are not recommended by Nintendo), although it'll need to have its own power supply. Just plug it in the Wii U, and it'll be completely wiped and formatted. Games will then download to that drive in future. I've experienced no performance issues personally.

Thank you so much SpookyMeths for the reply. I wonder how I will get my Mewtwo lol. When buying the digital copy will it give me a club Nintendo key where I can use to register it?

As long as you have your 3DS/Wii U registered on Club Nintendo, games bought digitally will automatically appear in your surveys within a few days. No need for codes!

Yes you'll get the DLC. You only need to register both copies of Smash (physical or digital).

You can get a portable hard drive for your Wii U. Nintendo recommends a hard drive that has its own power source in case the Wii U cannot power it. It is not recommended to use a flash drive due to the amount of data interaction.

Awesome! I just logged into my club Nintendo account for the first time and I saw Monster Hunter 3 (which I had to digitally purchase because there was no copies in all of Western Australia lol). I have an option to click on it and redeem my stars. So I assume I wait a few days and Smash Brothers should show up. Thank you!

Thank you everyone. So any Hard Drive will do, but it needs to have an AC adapter and it's own power plug.

Can you pre-purchase on the Australian eShop? I didn't realise that was a thing. Doesn't even show up on mine... unless it's hidden somewhere.

Anyways, probably won't be much of a help if you've already brought it but there is a decent deal going around ATM. EBGames has 20% off eShop cards starting November 20th. So if you were going to get Smash digitally and haven't already paid for it in some way then you can get it for $64AU rather than the $80AU eShop price. Then if you're in the digital deluxe promo you'll easily get enough to get another $7 credit. Effectively making Smash for Wii U a $57AU game!

I saw it there for 80 dollars and I bought it. It should be there.
