VERSUS XIII Is the cursed word holding me back from outside.

Who knows, I guess having me show grandma the wii U demo units next month would help.

Listen to your grandparents (who i presume are your guardians).

Use the money to buy a few chickens and build a small pen in your room. Chickens are much more profitable than Wii U's. Your grandparents can teach you how to behead a plump chicken, remove the insides, and all of that good stuff.

Ok I dont see the problem here.

1) You said you saved up the money yourself so their for its your money its not like you are asking them for the money to by the system. I mean you get an allowance so you must do chores and that around the house so I dont see where that is a problem

2) Last time I checked you dont need an adult to preorder something at Gamestop maybe for an M rated game.

So what is stopping you from doing what you want with your money. Your not using the money to hurt yourself or anyone else or anything illegal so I fail to see what the problem is.

I happen to be a respectful teen, thank you very much, so if my grandma tells me something, I do it. Even if I don't like it, It's chained to my mind to obey her. So That's why I need her to change her mind.

Well thats great that you respect them but as I said its your money that you earned and its not like by buying a Wii U it is going to hurt them or is illegal. In all honesty it would be like you saying that they cant by a new car with their money cause they already have one.

And yes I am a parent of my own and my son does get an allowance too. I dont put restrictions on what he can and can buy except that A) its not illegal and B) it doesn't hurt him or anyone else. Granted I do tell him that if thats what he wants to spend his money on thats find but don't come asking me for more money when its used up.

I think it's a little unfair to be criticising the grandparents, considering the grandparents aren't here to explain their decision, no?

I mean, for all we know this grandson character might desperately need a lesson in saving money, or perhaps the grandparents have organised a surprise holiday and they want to make sure the grandson has some money saved to enjoy the trip.

@Tasuki If you asked your son not to do something and he did it how would you feel?

Waltz kinda has a point here. There could easily be something else going on that we don't know about here (no matter what excuse Grandma gave — we all know how that goes)... there's no way for any of us to know the full story, and what works for one family won't work for all families. Let's assume good faith on their part and work on ways to change their minds as TheDreamingHawk has asked :3

Honestly, I dont think I ask him not to on to many things. But than again when I do I come up with valid points. I never use the "cause I said so" answer or "cause I can" I just point out the results of his actions as so. For example this past summer he wanted to get a mohawk type haircut which I wasn't thrilled about but after all it is his hair not mine. I told him what I thought about it and that if he wants to do that he is more than welcome to it but if he didnt like it or people made fun of him or if he got in trouble at school for it well than he would just have to deal with it or pay for another haircut cause I wasnt going to pay of another haircut so soon for him. In the end after the thought about it well than he decide not to get it.

Now if this was my son and I was in this position I would be happy for him if he wanted to save up his money and buy the Wii U himself rather than hounding me for the money. And if I was in the position of the Grandparents where I didnt know what the item is that he wanted to buy well I would allow him to present valid points on why he needed/wanted that item.

If you own 200 games for the Wii, I will tell you that it is time to get another hobby. Girls, chess, biking, something. 200 is overload, and this is coming from someone who owns every Nintendo console made since the NES (I skipped the ones in the 70s).

Pre-orders is only one way to get a console. I started saving the day of E3 2011 because I wanted it. There is also the wait in line for 8-12 hours the day before at Target or Walmart approach. Either way, you are going to need the money to get it. Start selling those 200 games. . .

I think he meant 200 including WiiWare and VC.

For the record my idea actually would work. People lose a lot of inhibitions when drunk. The value of money and the urge to suppress impulse buying being one of the first that goes.

But $40 bucks worth? That sounds more like a hospital trip to me.

Lots of censorship here...

Here's my two cents:

First, try to extract the specific reasons why they won't let you.

  • Don't try to argue that it's your money, try to find a solution that pleases both parties.

Second, find the info and try to explain why their reasons are invalid.

  • Show them pictures and read them official descriptions. It might convince them.
  • Explain the concept of console life cycles, and tell them that the Wii is at the end of it's cycle.

Third, take them to a store and have them talk to a clerk.

  • Getting to hear from a ''professional'' might make them understand.

Remember: Information is king, and the truth will set you free (to pre-order a Wii U)!

I likey Moshugan's answer best.
I'm glad I'm not in you're shoes, @TheDreamingHawk, my parents pretty much stopped dictating my purchases quite a few years ago, although my mother still frowns upon seeing me play a game more violent than, say, a LEGO game.

I used to travel the stars, then I discovered Earth, and these incredibly addicting things called 'Video Games.'
And they said you couldn't buy happiness!

Oh yeah, I was thinking in Aussie dollars. That's only like, 12 beers here.
