A new Metroid Prime makes more sense to me tbh. I mean, I would love a new 2D Metroid but you can find a decent amount of indie devs making 2D Metroid-like games. Shadow Complex came out 5 years ago, this is nothing new. But the last game that played like a Metroid Prime game was...Metroid Prime 3. No one has made a Metroid Prime since Metroid Prime so Nintendo should make a Metroid Prime.
Hopefully if they ARE making Prime 4, it will be creepier like the first two Prime games. Prime 3 relied too much on combat, and combat really was never the Prime games' strong suit.
So do you guys think they will put a multiplayer mode in a new Prime game? If it was true, I'd rather it be a co-op mode instead of straight up deathmatch. I would love some hunter customization, and then let us fight waves of enemies. But also let us explore the map and open it up as we get farther and farther in the match. By opening up the map (similar to COD zombies) we should be able to find better equipment as the match progresses. (example: missiles, ice beam, plasma beam, etc.) So it would kind of be a Metroid twist on multiplayer, by letting us "discover" new ways to power ourselves up.

So like Smash Run? That would actually be pretty fitting.
The problem with Prime, is that the first person view is a limitation for exploring.
I disagree, like @kkslider5552000 said nobody's done Prime since Prime 3 last. If anything Prime breaks the mold and allows for the best first person exploration I've seen to date!

Not really, they both have their advantages. 2D allows you to see through walls, 3D allows you to see further away and gives you an overall better vision of your surroundings. And in both cases, you have a map to help you.

Yeah so true. IRL when I'm trying to explore a new city, I always picture myself in a 2D side-scrolling perspective, and ask myself where to go? Left or right? LEFT OR RIGHT? Jump or Crawl? The options are endless!

Not 2D....3D but not in first person. No sarcasm needed.
I like playing the Prime series, but the movements of the FP game are so limited than a 3rd person or shoulder view.
2D Metroid is better, so I'd rather see one of them next. Ideally, though, we're getting Prime 4 on Wii U and Metroid 5 on 3DS.
I'd also love Prime 4 to have online Multiplayer with at least 12 people. Come on Retro!
They should just follow the Zelda model; release a 3D game on their home console and a 2D game on their handheld. It just makes too much sense to do Metroid Prime, Nintendo's most photorealistic franchise, with the power of the Wii U. Think how cool Skytown, Bryyo, or the Sanctuary Fortress would have looked on Wii U! That's what I want for the next Metroid Prime.
Still though... The Wii U needs as much help as it can get. I like my 3DS but I like my Wii U even more. I prefer Metroid on Wii U instead of 3DS if Nintendo isn't bring it both platforms.
I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Now that is some BUUULLPOOOOOPEYPOOP, right there. The first person view limits your perspective, which allows for even more exploration in a 3D space. Just remember the golden skulltulas from Ocarina of Time and how they couldn't have been hidden like that in A Link to the Past (or, more comparably, Zelda 2).

If Nintendo wants to help their console then they'll release a 3D game over a 2D one because 2D games don't appeal to as wide of an audience. Besides, there was that quote about Nintendo taking care of both 2 and 3D Metroid games, so they'll likely be doing both before too long (2016 at the earliest, realistically).

I think Nintendo could treat 2D Metroid like Captain Toad levels in Super Mario 3D World. A 3D Metroid Wii U with 2D sections. The 3DS is freaking awesome and I enjoy it so much BUT... The 3DS doesn't even need Metroid as bad as the Wii U needs it.

As long as Retro Studios keeps showing improvement, as they've done to this point, then I would be fine with a Metroid Prime 4. I would like that to be a fresh entry in that I hope they stay committed to Prime 3 being the end of the Phazon arc. I would like to see Metroid Prime 4 be more explorative than Metroid Prime 3, but with less puzzles with more focus on combat and environmental designs that provide alternate routes. The Metroid Prime Trilogy games take too long relative to every entry in the series aside from Other M, so I'd like another Retro Prime to be designed with faster routes without having to break the game with glitches. 2 hours would be a nice starting place, but 90 minutes would be ideal. With this game being $60, multiplayer on par with Metroid Prime Hunters is becoming something I want to see again in the series just to make me confident that I'm getting my money's worth. I think it was a missed opportunity for Metroid Prime 3 to have the feature absent.

Yeah....and Ocarina, is first person view game?
Obviously not, but the operative similarity between Prime and Ocarina is that in both you can't see through walls and need to look around in 3D to traverse the environment.
As long as the single player is good I'll buy any future Metroid Prime. Multiplayer might be useful for sales, but the game didn't need it from 2002 to 2008 and it doesn't need it today.
I just hope MP4's hypothetical story is good. They could explore the theme of exploring alien worlds which, despite your fancy power armor, start to creep in and infect you, like the phazon from corruption, but leveraged more in the story than in gameplay. I really dig the theme of biological life's vulnerability to hostile biological forces even in the space age with advanced medical technology, etc. Plus they could do some really cool story sequences with Samus suffering from different buffs and debuffs while fighting.

Yeah kind of! But better because you can actually see and interact with other players. (Ex. reviving each other, sharing items, etc.)

Since most people seem to disagree, I'll add my two cents and say that I agree. I'd rather have a third person Metroid. That being said, this time around they have two screens to play around with. I think it'd be great if the tv displayed a third person view, that allowed for a better overview; and the GamePad could display a first person view. Like how the The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest was done in Nintendo Land, but better.

I agree. I just don't want another first person game again, but a 3rd person game (unlike Other M though) would be in my tastes at least. But hey, I'll take what I can get, and I'll love it either way.
