Since Metroid Prime 3 i have got an idea about a Mega Man game like Metroid.
Imagine this:
You start out as Mega Man with his usually weapon and the dog who he can jump on (cant remember name now)
Then when game starts you start in some kind of hub where you have 8 doors to 8 different levels.
Behind each door is this level and in the end there is a boss. That boss like the old games gives you a new weapon type that you can use as a better weapon against another boss like old times to.
Then in the levels there are secrets wich only can be obtained by opening special doors etc with a new type of weapon or new type of dog you got in another level. Little like metroid. The levels will be open because of the secrets but do have "the right way" to follow.
After the 8 bosses you wil face Dr. Wily who ofc escapes after battle and fly away to hes secret castle and Mega Man follows.
Then anoter 4-5 lvls there before facing Dr. Wily in an epic battle to save the world.
