I've starting to play Ys Book I & II for Turbografx 16 on the Virtual Console and I must say it is absolutely fantastic, quite amazing for an early 90's RPG.
I would not hesitate to recommend it to RPG fans, what are your thoughts on this game?
I like that the battles are not turn-based and the monsters do not just appear randomly. The quality of the voice acting is good considering that it came out in 1989. The only downside for me is, as a german (with my very limited english knowledge), that the English voices are hard to understand. I wish they had made at least English subtitles.
The best version of one of the best RPGs out there. I've played through the first game a zillion times. One of these days, I'll actually play the second.

I am a native Spanish speaker (Mexican) so I do understand your point
It's absolutely fantastic. I've got it on my Turbografx. A really great game. The only real problems with it was the necesity to grind and the loading times (the latter was fixed on VC).
However, Ys IV: Dawn of Ys is easily the better game. Longer, better paced, diagonal movement, and a better story. Unfortunately, it never came to the west, but thanks to fans, I can play it on my Turbografx in English (minus the cutscenes, of course).
Best thread ever

I too wish they had subtitles in this game. I played it late at night and had to have the volume down, so I had trouble hearing the dialogue sometimes. Other than that, it is one of the best games I've ever played, and without the VC I probably would have never gotten a chance to play it.
Also absolutely awesome is Oath in Felghana (available on PSP and through Steam), which is a remake/reimagining of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. Highly reccomended.

.
I remember playing Rondo of the Blood on PC Engine emulator long before it was release on VC and I noticed some loading times before the boss battles (a few seconds) and later when I purchased the Virtual Console version of Rondo of the Blood I noticed it hasn't any loading times before boss battles which was quite nice
I think Turbo Grafx 16 (and probably other systems) titles have superior emulation on Virtual Console

I noticed there is a remake of Y's Book I & II on DS it looks quite nice on youtube videos

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)

If you can, go for the PSP version instead. It was handled by Falcom themselves, whereas the DS one was handled by a 3rd party.

Get it on the VC. Ys Book I and II was an amazing game for its time. That can't be said about any other Ys game.
I've got the DS version, it's pretty good if you ask me.

and download the pdf file "Ys Book I & II Guide v0.9.9".
It has only 17 pages and is perfectly suited for black & white printing.
It's designed in a professional and somewhat aesthetically pleasing manner. And it covers all important details and has maps for all areas of the game.
