I am currently away from my Wii U for a while so I can't access Wii mode to check. But how much are the different options to add Wii Points to your account? I'm talking about original Wii Points and not eshop. Can't find the cards anywhere, so only option is to add them using a credit card. Still a lot of Wii VC games I want to get!
No problem. To my knowledge, they should still work with the Wii and DSi shops. In fact, the Wii points redemption page in the Wii Shop Channel specifically mentions "eShop cards", so they should still be valid. Read the back of the card for confirmation just to be safe.
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
eShop cards don't work with Wii or DSi. Although you can buy DSi games in 3DS/2DS with eShop credit at the eShop, you need DSi points in order to buy in a DSi. I'm not sure about Wii Mode in WiiU, but you can't use eShop cards on a Wii either. You need a valid credit card to buy points, some debit cards work as well but they could be charged extra fees, it varies from country to country.
EDIT: It seems in Euro countries you can use the eShop cards, probably because of the use of the same currency, there is an old post of someone not being able to use it in the UK, though, possibly because they never accepted the change of the Pound for the Euro. In NA eShop cards come in US dollars and Mexican pesos (I don't know about Canada), but the Wii/Dsi Points have a value in US$. Maybe the currency difference is what prevented Nintendo from allowing the eShop cards to be redeemed in the old shops.
Based on observation, I'd say this is exclusive to Europe.
I guess it's not a feature here because we have diferent currencies and they would end up losing money if they, say, allowed you to get 2000 DSi points using a 200 MX pesos card instead of a 20 US dollars one (20US = ~280MX, so you would end up getting more for your money in MX).
Must be a PAL thing; Australia do it too. I've seen these in my local store, and they are redeemable as Nintendo Points. Weird it's not in the US though.
I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]
I hate that too. There are tons of VC games I want but my card is not accepted and eShop cards do not seem to work. Old Wii point cards are not around either.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
