People hate it because they rented it from Blockbuster, played through six or so levels, saved the Super Happy Tree (ugh...), and sat there, with their mouth agape, processing everything that just happened, looking over to their best friend, and meekly uttering but three words: "What.... the..... &@%k......"
They were already pretty disturbed after the intro. The boss fight against Cloud N' Candy is pretty much a free ticket to therapy. Hexen help you if you happened to be a Yoshi's Island fan prior to playing.
...but we'll all admit, the black and white Yoshi's were pretty cool, as were the black and white shyguys. The game had it's good moments, but unfortunately Yoshi's Island outdid it in all categories by about 1,000 times years before it was made.
