The 3rd party pool is games isn't too large due to the major supporters no longer existing. All the Acclaim games can't come out since the Acclaim that released them is long dead and Factor 5 recently died.

Apart from that it seems like the controller pak which should be trivial to emulate (the same with rumble...which actually worked back in the gamecube variation of the emulator) but Nintendo's approach of they come to us (regarding games) means it'll never get done.

Whoa! Factor 5 went under?! Where have I been to let that one slip under my radar? smacks self That's sad to see such a great developer go down. I guess the economic crisis is taking it's toll on video game developers too.

There's some reasons why:
1. Licensing issuse. The majority of Nintendo 64 games are under licensing issues, either because Rare own Microsoft or the game didn't star video game characters.

2. Controller Pak issues: Any games that requires Controller Pak to save is blocked from an Virtual Console release for an time being.

It may not sound much, but the Nintendo 64 library on the Virtual Console will probably be patehic at the end, unless Nintendo solve both of these issues.

You mean 'Microsoft own Rare,' right? And people wonder why I dislike MS so much. Always using their billions to buy up companies and create monopolies. I didn't think much of the Rare buy out when it happened. I mean, let's face it, their games haven't been all that great since the N64 days(for some reason they simply thrived with the N64 hardware). But now it's become a huge crutch for the N64 VC library. I'm still hopeful a small miracle will happen and they'll be able to work out an arrangement that's benefical for all parties involved, but I just don't see Microsoft willing to work with Nintendo and vice versa anytime in the near future.

Still, Nintendo can release Donkey Kong 64, right? They have full rights to the Donkey Kong Country games, all of which have been released on VC of course; so I don't see why the same wouldn't apply to DK64.

And there are quality titles from other 3rd party developers out there that will hopefully show up on VC soon as well...
