Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (SNES)

Some say that this is too slow, but you can increase the speed on the title screen by pressing right on the d-pad until you see three stars.

Yeah. Its the best looking game, has the most characters and special moves - you wouldn't really notice or appreciate the tiny technical details that make Hyper Fighting the choice of Street Fighter purists.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Super Street Fighter II is a better choice...

I prefer Special Championship Edition over the other versions. Graphics are good, it's fast, and the music sounds closer to the arcade than the SNES versions.

@Tony. But how can one stand the crunchy voices in that version?

I have the Hyper Street Fighter II edition on the PS2 and that contains all the features from all versions of the game (bar the recent HD Remix of course), so that would be a good choice.

If you are not bothered about the extra characters then go for hyper otherwise go for new challengers, they both deliver a solid SF2 experience with only very minor technical differences.

This is good

New challengers is my favourite of the snes SF2, the graphics and gameplay are still great and the AI is easier than Hyper

I would say Super Street Fighter II. I have never played the SNES version but I own the Genesis cart and it is a great game. I have SFII Turbo (SNES) and Special Champion Edition (Genesis) on Virtual Console. But I play SSFII more than the others.

I haven't played Hyper, so I can't say for sure how much faster it is (if at all) than New Challengers. But I just love New Challengers so much, you won't be disappointed.

SFII: Hyper Fighting....

Just think about how good has to be a game that has the word Hyper in its title!!!!

PD: and it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than the others.

AVOID the genesis special championship edition - they removed E. Honda's 100-hand slap

@NESnes
They did not remove the 100 hand slap. I've used it special champion edition.

The SNES version of Super Street Fighter II is one of my all time favourites! I even prefer it over the arcade SSFIIT. I say get that one. The selectable speeds are good enough, and you wouldn´t want a Street Fighter without Cammy, would you? The game looks gorgeous too.

I personally would recommend Super Street Fighter II: The New Challenger for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It has sixteen characters, the ability to change speed, and more modes to mess with. In fact, I did a positive review on it. But beware of scary intro!
