Topic: So What Are Your Thoughts Now That The Wii VC is Dead?

Without a game released in NA its probably safe to say that the Wii VC is dead. So what are your thoughts? Me personally I am kinda upset cause the VC was the main reason I bought the Wii in the first place. Thankfully I still have my SNES N64 and other systems but tracking down the games at a good price is a bit tougher.

Overall I would say the Wii VC had a good run some games that I thought would never make it to the service did while others I am kinda upset cant or wont.

So anyway what are your thoughts?

The wii vc is not dead. Look on the coming soon list. When its dead there will be no more titles there.

What makes you think they'll be released? NintendoLife's coming soon list doesn't guarantee a game will be released.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I wish it wouldn't die. I like the VC because it means that some of the more expensive games can be released on there for a very cheap price. Now if I want a game like say, Soul Blazer, a game that has a very high chance of coming to the VC, I'll have to buy it from the internet or a used game store if I want to play it legally, and I know that the game's more than $8 on Ebay. There's also the fact that the SNES is an old console so I have no idea how much longer it'll last (hoping mine lasts for a long time though!). Then there's games on consoles I don't have that I want, like Adventure Island II and Castlevania Bloodlines. For that I'd have to buy the console and the game which can cost quite a bit depending on the game and console itself. Then there's convenience. I'd much rather have all the games in one place rather than have a bunch of games and consoles taking up space. I know there's some games that can't be released due to licensing issues, but I can't think of too many that I'd get other than Turtles in Time and a few of the Capcom Disney games. Hopefully when the Wii U comes out, the VC will come back to life again.

Its disappointing that it seems to be dead now as there were still some great games that could've but weren't released on it especially for the N64. Although, there are still loads of games that have been released on the service that is still need to get. If there is a vc for wii U it will probably have new consoles like the Saturn and dreamcast as well as more advanced arcade games but I hope that more games are added to the consoles that started out on the wii vc too.

I just don't really feel like it matters. The Wii is on its way out now and there's a pretty vast, pretty awesome library of VC games on it. I mean aside from licenced games — the games we'll never end up getting anyway — and a couple of others, what more is there to release for it anyway?

When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

I'm rather sad. The Wii has a HUGE selection of great VC titles and I've literally bought over 100, most of which I haven't gotten far in. So there is a quality product already. But even putting aside licensed games, even putting aside Mario World 2 or Star Fox SNES [SuperFX issues-- presumably], there are so many games that are just strange to not have on the VC. A commenter on the front page mentioned the Megadrive versions of Castlevania and Contra- I'd LOVE those! How about Pilot Wings 64? There ARE still some low-hanging fruit that leave me a bit puzzled as to Nintendo's plan. And even beyond that are titles like Monster World IV- is that one still expected [it's a guaranteed-buy for me] or releases of the latest Neo Geo titles like Twinkle Star Sprites? And of course I can dream, too, and in those dreams I imagine Ninty localizing Super Famicom Wars or one of the original SFC Shin Megami Tensai games [yeah right!]. As for the Wii U, yes, maybe they are holding some 16-bit titles to release fresh on the Wii U, but I'd hope they are planning well beyond that for Gamecube and - I can dream - arcade games more advanced than roughly CPS1-level hardware.

My only problem with waiting for the Wii U's VC is one we dont exactly know when the Wii U is coming out and two after seeing how the Wiis VC ended up I am not going to make the same mistake twice and make the VC my main reason for buying the Wii U like I did the Wii. The problem is that Nintendo made the VC sound so promising and dont get me wrong it has a good library but there are still a bunch of titles that can come out that dont have a licensing problem. Take for example Megaman 6 and 7 or even the rest of the Megaman X series that was released on Nintendo consoles. Its beginning to look like we might not see those games coming to the Wii VC.

There are many good games left to released that could be released (i.e. excluding Rare games, licensed games, games from defunct companies etc...). And a whole lot more bad games that could be released too.

Its far from over.

NOA's pratically been trying to kill the Wii all year (although recently they've started to realize that actively avoiding any support for a console that'll be around until probably towards the end of 2012 despite being the most popular of the current gen consoles MIGHT (just MIGHT) get you a ton of backlash) so I'm not surprised.

Yes @Shingi_70, the WiiU will have the ability to transfer all of your WiiWare and VC downloads, most likely through the WFC. The only problem is, you won't be able to trade your Wii in towards your purchase of the WiiU. Unless Nintendo can somehow link all of your purchases to the WiiU through your old Wii serial number. Maybe through a user created password or something like that, so someone else can't steal your serial number for themselves. (<:
(That's the only plausible conclusion I can formulate.)

Why would you trade in a Wii for a Wii U? I plan on keeping my Wii mainly cause the Wii U wont have the Gamecube parts and I still have a bunch of GC games.

@Shingi_70: That maybe so that they are waiting for the Wii U it still means that the Wii VC is dead. My only problem with that is that there isnt even a release date for the Wii U yet so there is still time for them to put stuff out for the Wii VC rather than nothing at all.

@Tasuki, I thought you said your main reason for purchasing the Wii was for the VC service, not for it's backwards compatibility? You can still purchase a factory sealed Gamecube at Amazon for under $90, if your worried about such matters.

Yeah it was but I was talking about the Wii U. I still will keep my Wii around to play my GC collection and not have to redownload games I own already cause I got rid of the system. Besides I also have a working GC in storage . I was just saying thats all. I just wonder why someone would trade in their old system just for a new one thats all.

To free up space is one good reason and let's be honest the Wii hasn't really been an all-star console.
