They don't necessarily tend to do this. I think they generally release the least popular game in the series first so that impatient fans will buy it, whereas if it were released second they'd be satisfied with just the better original game. But Mario and Mega Man were released in order, for example.
@Adam - Maybe not all the time, but they do it enough. I'd like to get them in order (Like Breath of Fire 1 before 2.) They've done it with FF,BOF,GK,Romance of the 3 Kingdoms. Anyways, I'll change tend with sometimes. So. That'll fix that:)
I understood that from your first post. I'm sure those want the whole series would like them in order, but publishers are just looking for the best way to sell them, and someone is not going to buy a lackluster sequel if the original is already out, so they sometimes put the series out of sequence if that is the case.
Breath of Fire is a different case altogether, though. The first one was published by Square, who has only barely shown support for the VC. Capcom had more control over BoFII, so that was just the easier one for them to put out.
@Stuffgamer- Got it. I just said it that way because it was easy to do it that way. (Heck, if I thought people were going to get so critical I guess I would have tried harder to think of a better way to put it)
I agree, longtimegamer. Games that are part of a series should be released in order. Personally, whether it's books, movies, tv show seasons, video games, etc. I always like to start at the beginning and would probably just skip the subject matter in question all together if I could not start with its first installment.
