Paper Mario for the Nintendo 64

This game was great. This is one of the few RPG's I enjoy, mainly because it's more interactive with the action commands than most RPG's. The music was catchy and the graphics looked unique for their time. The game was on the easier side, but it never got so easy it was boring. I think I only died once or twice throughout the whole game, but that's fine with me. My only complaint was that other than Goombario, the other partners don't have that much of a personality (Kooper suffers from this big time).

But I just had to change it to one of my favorite games on the NES (possibly my absolute favorite), The Guardian Legend. Especially while it is unjustly omitted from the VC library

It was Lords of Thunder. Must have played some 30 hours in it, lol, last time I checked my playing time - head to head with bit trip runner (which I also finished recently after being stuck on the last level for some time). This is the greatest game ever made no doubt. I always play in fire armor, but for the final boss I used earth armor. Such an uplifting experience. Following that triumph, I d/led Gates of Thunder.

I would post more reviews in this thread but I don’t have that many VC games because as you know, I like playing the games on the “original” vs. the “virtual” console. I need to start up a Recent Game You've Beaten "Retro" Edition! in the Retro section.
I need to visit Destructoid that sounds like a better site for me. Do they have a bunch of retro reviews? I have been using IGN but like you said it is boring and the comment section is worse then a guys high school locker room, stench from the wrestling room included. I enjoyed that review of Mega Man 9, it helped restore some of my lost faith in humanity. I will have to read the review on 10 soon. I have not played those 2 games as I would like to complete 1-6 first.
Enjoy* Links Awakening*; it is number 2 for me behind A Link to the Past in Zelda series. Great game… The song from the village gets stuck in my head whenever I hear about the game!

Imagine living in a world where cartoons do actually exsist like in Who Framed Roger Rabbit that would be off the charts! But living in the 80's would easily be enough for me.lol Just imagine being trasported back to 85' for example. Oh man, I'd be hitting up the movie theatre watching all of those horror classics or going to the mall and macking on those perm rocking big haired babes in a matter of mega no time.lol

Anyways, I guess I'm a bit out there since I'm an artist, and I kinda see things differently or just imagine how amazing things would be if a lot of these people out there would step aside from the typical boring mold and get crazy and imagintive. There are too many followers out there, people who are just boring, close minded and who only see what's in front of them who live a generic restricted run of the mill bland life style. There's too much to live for after all. ART/creating, Horror movies, Nintendo, nostalgia, everything 80's and ect ect is what I live for.

And what you said in Bold is so true, or it usually is a lot of the time sadly. And ya dude! Definitly make a Retro Edition of what games you've currently beaten. I need to get myself a 27" Tube CRT SDTV for my Nes and SNES, because playing my Nes on my current 32" CRT just doesn't look or feel right ya know?lol I might as welll go extra Retro and get one of those 80's wooden TV's which I used to have.....Then again, i think I'll just stick to an early 90's CRT.

As for Destructoid, I'm pretty sure they don't review retro titles and the new releases that they do review don't exactly get blasted out as fast as the generic flavorless crap that gets spewed out of IGN's big gaping burger butt.lol And that's the thing, IGN's reviews are quantity over quality....Destructoids on the other hand are long, meaty, totaly enjoyable, written much better and they go far deeper into the subject and then some getting really detailed about everything. I think I'm mainly speaking for Johnathan Homes and that other popular beefy fatty with the point dexter glasses.

And I laughed at the "IGN' comment section is worse then a guys high school locker room, stench from the wrestling room included" Because it's so freakin true. It's pretty sad actually, having constant system flame wars while completely avoiding the topic at hand all together. But the majority of that crap is pumped out by a lot of clueless kiddies Hell, whenever I skim through the IGN comments section I can smell the stinky high school sweat blast out of my computer.lol I used to go to their messageboards, but not anymore, nor the comment secotions. But I still use IGN as my main site to go for, for gaming news and reviews oddly enough. I think I'm just really attracted to the site's layout haha.

And the only way to ever get a hold of a Galactic Twinkie is quite simple. You'd need a Supertronic Mega Robo Rooster rocking an Ultra Sour Rainbow Slurpie Jetback, where you could easly blast off and transport to the land of Galactic twinkies in a matter of nano seconds, but the only people on this planet who have this magical transportation device are none other than these most radical dudeskies!

dont think i ever got through a VC game.. but the first one mentioned here Adventure Island and the picture of the boss thingie in the orange room. I remember him sooo much from the NES time. I never got past him back then xD

@WaveBoy I have been doggin' it during these Dog Days of Summer in regards to my activity on N'Life so it has taken me a like a week and a half to discover your post. I have actually been doggin' it when it comes to playin video games as well. I would love living in the Who Framed Roger Rabbit cartoon/reality coexistence world! The 80's was the closest thing to that in our lifetime I imagine; the overall fun, colorful and wackiness of the era sadly is just a memory left for me to look back fondly upon. How's that time machine coming? If I created a time machine it would definitely involve starting up by powering on a NES

I actually have my SNES/NES hooked up to my LCD TV via composite cables. If I had more room I would definitely pick up a 27"ish CRT TV to replicate retro reality. Glad to hear you still have a CRT! Now that I think of it my gram's has an old woody cabinet TV, maybe she will give it to her favorite grandson

Yeah, I use IGN just for like a quick overview for what is going on in the video game world but that is it. I dont understand why people go on the Internet to participate in verbal sparring which has no better example then IGN.

The Game Genie commerical was totally epic! Oh man, do I remember that like it was yesterday. I wanted that back the but since I was limited to how many NES games I could afford I could notspend the cash on that. Those generic games in the commercial were hilarious. Using a Game Genie now would be sacrilegious. It would violate N'life's Terms of Use if I posted how I feel if someone were to use a Game Genie nowadays!

I never used the Game Genie even in the 90s when they came out. I always did consider those cheating beside I had friends who had their NESes messed up cause of them no way was I going to wreck my NES by using one.

Just beat Super Mario Bros 3 on the VC today. Been a few years since I beat the game had some a few rough times getting through the tanks and such in Bowsers world but I by the time I got to Bowser himself my skills came back to me and I beat him without missing a beat.

Kirby 64 and Super Mario World

I finally beat Chrono Trigger, which is just an amazing game all around. It feels great to go back and beat a game that has taken on a legendary status. Now I understand. Now I'm gonna beat some Zelda games I never finished, starting with ALttP.

Well I just beat Kirby's Dreamland on the 3DS VC, and I have to say it wasnt a bad little game. Granted I did beat it in a half hour which surprised me since I have never played it before, but than again those old gameboy games were never really long.

Mega Man 2. Pretty surprised I managed to beat a Mega Man game in a couple of days.

Why does everyone think the Megaman games are so hard?

Propaganda. Game journalists who suck at video games have usually only played a handful of NES games, and the Mega Man games, being as popular as they are, usually end up being included in that handful.Thus, they end up with that completely nonsensical label. As far as NES games go, the difficulty level in the MM games is nothing out of the ordinary - if anything, they're easier than the norm.

Well I will say this, Mega Man 2 is a cakewalk compared to Ninja Gaiden. I was playing that this weekend too and the first few acts are pretty easy, but Acts 5 and 6 are ruthless. I'm still on 6-2 and it feels like I've gotten a million game overs on this and Act 5.

And Ninja Gaiden is an utter ridiculous flat out hilarious cake walk compared to Adventure Island.....You get my total gaming respect if you've beaten that one. I have, and it's 10x harder than any Mega Man game, it's even Harder than Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom and that game made NG1 and NG2 seems like a cake walk in comparison....Must of been the limited continues.....Then again....I mean you were forced to master skills not even a real ninja could master.

Anyways, as far as Mega Man goes, the only ones in the franchise I've ever found were actually hard goes to Mega Man & Bass(Mainly because of That Jet Boss in King's Stage 2, along with Burner & Magic man), and then there's Mega Man 10.
MM9 offered some pretty decent challenge as well, but 10 boardered into irritating at times....Those incoming cars pissed me off so much in Nitro man's stage the first time i played it.lol But really the robot masters in 10 easily outclass the ones in 9 in the difficulty department.

But again, Adventure Island takes the cake as thee toughest Nes I've ever played.....This stage gave me nightmares....Hardest sidescrolling stage in existence.

Keep in mind that your life meter gradually drains unless you keep getting fruit,
plus it only takes 1 hit and you're a gonner.

Anyways, as far as the toughest Nes games go, at least for me I'd say....

Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
Blaster Master - (Stil can't beat the final Boss, nor will i ever play this game ever again)
Ghost 'n Goblins - (then again, i haven't played it in years, as my memories of it are a bit foggy! Need to get this for Halloween on the VC! )
