I miss Japanese games, the good stuff... Games that are imaginative, have good and unique gameplay, a great soundtrack, and replay value.

I just finished Rondo of Blood (Thought I hated Castlevania due to the SNES version being a waste of time). Used Richter the whole time. (Got it to 100%). Normally I despise cutscenes but I loved the ones in Rondo.

Castlevania Rebirth I went pretty much straight through afterwards and it felt really easy. (Normal setting 3 lives - Didn't enable classic (Would have done if it was like Rondo - not sure it would have made that much difference I never used the Axe in this but I thought I might need to). It is rubbish compared you can just hit and hope every boss nearly.

I am on World 9 of the Lost Levels. (I suppose finishing it means doing world 9 and the extra 4 secret worlds with both Mario and Luigi). It is possible I might never finish the whole thing with Luigi due to not wanting to.

I remember when I beat MM1 for the first time 22 years ago. I didn't know about the pause exploit back then, so I did it the "right way". It feels like the worst thing to do when I do the exploit now but I have to if I get there with low energy.
Last thursday I completed Uforia, it was such a great experience, it made me feel like a 10-year old from the 80's again. I've gotta get the Famicom cart one of these days.

Life Force

You know, i can handle a deep space-saucy challenge, i can handle Ninja Gaiden I-III, Double Dragon, Contra, Adventure Island, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Blaster Master, Ghosts 'n goblins, TMNT, Batman, Zelda II(ect ect) just to name a few. But Life Force? the difficulty becomes extremely irritating and maddening during the 3rd stage, enemies are just relentless and you're next to useless when you've got no power ups(especially 'speed') and your measily 3 continues with only 3 lives just isn't enough. I've restarted from the beginning again and again which i normally don't mind, but with this game i just wasn't enjoying it enough to do so.... during the past week, i've been getting nowhere... I don't like to cheat, heck i never use codes....But in this case because i'm just not a fan of the schmup genre.... i had to.

Now that i've beaten Life Force using the infamous extra lives konami code, i can safely sat that IF i had played it normally straight through, there's a good chance i'd be playing this for another 2-3 weeks(which is a good thing)....But there's also a greater chance that I still wouldn't be able to finish it.. :P....So, after using the code, the game became boring, the intensity was gone because i had so many lives at my disposal and i was careless half the time because i was practically near invisible.

I Wish i just would of quit cold turkey at stage 3 instead and left the rest an unbeatable mystery. :O.....Rather than cheating & carelessly plowing through it like a 5 year old until the game was over and done with. Bad experience, but it was somewhat enjoyable when i played it normally and this is coming from somebody who doesn't really care for schmups.

But really, you haven't beaten Life Force if you have used the Konami code, because you've destroyed any sense of reward and satisfaction. Anyone can plow through it with the code, it becomes rather pointless.....Without the code, this game has beaten me into the ground.i couldn't even make it past the 3rd stage without cheating. Shame on little Wavey! Anyways, either way. Life Force just isn't my cup of tea....Go figure, since i hate shooters and the majority of Shmups, but i thought i'd jump out of my little confort zone and play what is considered one of the greatest NES games of all time, just not my bodacious bilstering 'bag', that's all. ;)

Last week, I got around and finally completed Sonic the Hedgehog from Game Gear. It's an easy game but nonetheless enjoyable. The only issue I had with it was the somewhat bizarre collision detection management. Unlike the 16-bit Sonic games, you can't chain multiple bounces on a boss from above because it apparently has some frames that remove its hitbox and then put it back shortly after. And for some strange reasons, after Sonic is hit with the shield on while having landed on the gound without any ring, he skips its mercy invincibility and then dies.

Also, just for showing how easy is the game, I'll let the picture speak for itself.

There's like 1,000's of good games to play from retro to current. At some point it just becomes futile to play a retro game without codes/cheats and may be necessary to finish so you can move on to something else

Why do you need to finish it ? Or if you do why does it have to be before playing something else ? (I played the whole of the Lost Levels - 1 continue at a time over about 3 years).

If I really like something I might blast through it but I won't cheat.

If i'm enjoying the game i always feel like i have to finish it, then move on to the next.
I'm just gonna say that i didn't beat Life Force. the cheat code i used to finish the game basically turns you into a careless god, i would of rather not used it and admit to defeat at Stage 3. aka > .The fire spitting lava pit from 8-bit hell. :P

I wasn't exactly enjoying LF that much anyways, even though i was having somewhat of a 'decen't time before i activated the code...After that, it turned into a nightmare on boring street. Yet the thought of having to constantly restart the game when playing it normally and start from square one wasn't exactly motivating due to the steep irritating challenge, in this case.....Meh, Schmups just aren't my Baxter stockman bag. ;)

As they say, if it aint Mega Man, it's mega Dookie ;)
Slowly creeps over to the retro station frontier 80's padOrama, and slips in none other than Double Drag' II: The Revenge

I also use the Konami Code in Life Force and it is better than use save states in newer games. I use the code and I can´t even finish the game so I can enjoy it a little more.

boy that game was kinda tough. its one of those right when you hit the ground and get up the enemies start attacking you before you have a chance to fight back. i recall losing a life in like 10 seconds. lucky for them i didnt have my whip on me.

just finished shock troopers 1. brutal difficulty. i had to use the second controller to continue my game.
they majority of the way you go about restoring yer health in that game is by using close contact melee which increases the risk of getting hurt yerself.
alas, i seen the ending...sheesh
