Lets face it gamers we really don't pay our respects to some of the dinasaurs that were before Nintendo. Of course we still all respect Atari but last time I checked Atari wasn't on the vc. I'm just sayin when was the last time you bought a comadore 64 game or a sega master system game that wasn't Alex Kid? So what non sega genesis game or Nintendo game did you buy this christmas or even ever on the vc?

If people wanted to play these games out of nostalgia then there would be more demand for them...if people were interested in playing these old games then there would be more demand for them. Nintendo arent going to release these games onto the VC just to allow gamers to 'respect' them.

I wasn't saying buy them to just to respect them I was just simply asking what was a purchase you made on the vc that wasn't Nintendo or genisis.

Let's face it. Anything before the NES and Master System has aged horribly. Even the good Atari games sucked way back in 1994, let alone today.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.

Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

The good Atari games may have sucked in 1994, but they're awesome today.

.... or something like that.

What NeoShinobi said.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure Atari has a thing with Microsoft and their Game Room application where you can pay 50 cents to play a classic game once, or buy it for three dollars. (Average prices, there are exceptions.) Most of the classic Atari games are available there, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have no way of bringing them over to other consoles.

Nintendo - Where even first person shooters ooze creativity.

Many non-Nintendo games on the NES have aged horribly, same with many Master System games. The Sonic games on Master System don't have the same sense of speed as their Genesis counterparts (obviously due to technical limitations).

I didn't play any VC titles on Christmas, let alone Atari related games. Atari games aren't very good. I'm sorta glad they're not on the VC...

Atari > XBOX.

Pitfall was scary, intense and insane back in the day. I played it when i was wee little wavester and it's always stuck with me. The Atari just had this distinct, unique and crazy feel about it. It's going to be the next Retro Console I end up buying that's for sure.

There's just something about that system that warps you back in time regardless if most of the games don't hold up that well. It's just kind of neat to fire up and play it for 15 minutes just for kicks. I remeber the AVGN saying there was just something so surreal about playing the Atari back in the day late at night in the dark while hearing crickets chirping in the background.lol i gotta try me that!

When I think back at some of my earliest memories it includes playing the Atari 2600 with the Captain Commando joystick and bright orange button in my parents old house down in the spooky, dark, cool, basement. Talk about a surreal experience for a 6 year old! Frogger, Qbert where my games along with some Pole Position. Combat was great when I had someone else to play with. Anyway, Atari games would totally blow Space Invader chunks on a VC without an Atari 2600 controller. Using a Wii remote, eww!!! That would be like mixing some Ecto-Cooler with a Coke Zero and a teaspoon of Tabasco.

The Atari 2600 was my second gaming console, after a Pong-type machine. There were indeed some great games on that system, though few if any stand up well to today's games, simply because the console didn't allow much depth to the games. Asteroids, Pitfall, Kaboom, River Raid, to name but a few, were great games that controlled perfectly and provided hours of arcade-type fun. And Warlords was the first great four-player game. I still play them from time to time, but I get bored quickly.

Very true, but there are plenty of NES and Master System games like Super Mario Bros. 1 through 3 that are worth playing today. The same thing can't be said for the earlier systems.

I think anyone who has played the Intellivision compilation that was released a few years ago will agree that sometimes these things are best left as nostalgic memories - having said that I would like to see more VC Arcade games, but at a more wallet friendly price. With the dominance of Apple's App store wouldn't it make sense to sell these at 99p?

I have several NeoGeo games and would download a lot more if we had the same games that Japan has been getting.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Eh. Just look at how many anti-gay, anti-atheist, anti-evolution, anti-Obama, anti-Muslim, anti-Liberal comments there are on the internet. Not so much on here but in general.

Really, we're going down that road again? I think games on the eShop, Xbox Live Arcade, DSiWare, PS Mini's, etc. are priced fairly well. Not everything has to be 99 cents or less. This whole price war that Apple started has clouded people's judgement of how much these games are actually worth. These iOS games need to sell many more copies than a comparable DSiWare game just so the developer can make a profit.
