I'm planning 'bout buying this SNES game but I'm not very sure of its length. Do you think it's an enyoyable experience? Do you think it's worth the points?
(I'm not sure to buy it or waiting for the next Hanabi Festival).

Thanks.

It is definitely worth the points. The gameplay just flows so well and it's graphics are great. I recommend you get it.

Just because he bought it for me doesn't mean he'll do it for just EVERYBODY on this site. I don't think he has that kind of money. Though he'd only have himself to blame if requests came flooding in.

It's great as long as you don't mind not having a freaking clue what's going on in the story scenes. That bugs me, which is a large chunk of why I still haven't finished the game.

I need to get this, but the Japanese text is turning me off, and I have a ton of other games to buy that are higher up on the "must have" list.

Really?! Wow, this so seems like a pixelman game! I can't believe you aren't rushing to dowload it. Don't let some minor Japanese text postpone you from playing the best platformer on the SNES since Super Mario World!!!!

"Minor" Japanese text? Don't downplay it dude, that stuff is ANNOYING!
@pixelman: If that's a serious consideration for you, I'd say don't download it. It's just not worth the frustration.

@Stuffgamer1: Hey, have you checked out the long-play videos of Do Re Mi Fantasy on YouTube yet? There are some with english text and that makes things a whole lot easier!

I liked it, but then I have a basic knowledge of Japanese and I can read kana, so i was able to understand most of what was going on without having to find a video translation or anything. If you can just ignore the parts with text, you can play the game without having to know what's going on, to be honest.

My only gripe was that it took me 20-25+ tries to defeat the final boss. The rest of the game's mini-bosses/bosses were fine, maybe one or two tries to defeat them, but that last one, holy freaking crap. it's easier if you go back to an earlier stage to collect some powerup items and the best suit before every try instead of going in with the worst suit and no items, though, IIRC.

they are so lazy for not translating this. I've played a .ips patched (so its all in english) version of this on emulators and its a great game. I don't understand asking you to pay more for something they didn't even translate.

It's such a good game. I bought it when it came out after having someone speak highly of it and I never regretted it. Although I still haven't beaten the game, it's really good especially if you like Mario platformers and whatnot. The game is so unique I really wish we'd see more titles like this on the VC.

Well, most of the Japanese text occurs when you get a new instrument and when you get instructions on a mini game. I can't read Japanese and I didn't feel like it was a waste to download the game. Plus, the operations guide tells you anything about the above you might need to know.

Geez ... this a platformer not a rpg, folks.

I took five or six hours to beat DoReMi Fantasy, which is really nice for a platformer that never pulls any heavy collectathon elements. (You do have to pick up one giant musical note per level in each world, but it's not a big deal.)

And as for whether it's enjoyable: It's not uncommon to see people saying DoReMi "stacks up" to Super Mario World, whether that's right here at NintendoLife or somewhere like Super-NES.com. But honestly, even knowing these will be big words, there's not even a contest in my mind; DoReMi wins. Its music, controls, and difficulty balance are all just as good, and pretending you're in Bubble Bubble to shoot bubbles is just as fun as throwing fireballs--but DoReMi distinguishes itself with its environments. They're filled with creativity and all kinds of things you probably wouldn't imagine platforming on if you didn't see them first (cookies, party hats, musical notes, growing Pinocchio noses, mouse heads poking out of walls...), and topped off with great attention to detail. Milon has a unique animation for even something as small as pushing against the wind (instead of running slower but animating the same, as most games would do); wine glass pyramids slowly fill and overflow; tree stumps frown when you stand on top of them.

DoReMi is a real labor of love in every way, and there's almost nothing on Virtual Console that I'd sooner recommend.

Edit: Just remember there's a charge-up attack from holding Y and letting go; it's pointed out in the operations manual anyway, but you'll need the attack pretty early in the first world and I think it also comes up a couple other times.

My previous statement about the text stands. It doesn't matter if it's not an RPG, it's still REALLY annoying to some people, myself included! I don't appreciate the suggestion that it isn't, and I'm somewhat insulted that my opinion is being steamrolled here.

On the plus side, I agree with all the positive things Jiggy has to say about the game. The animation, music, etc. are all amazing. Which is why I'm so mad that they soured the experience with the Japanese text.
