seriously I just spent the last Wii points I'll ever have on a genre I suck at. This better be as good as people say it is.
I made the same move about a year ago...while the game is excellent, I still sucked at the genre too much. I didn't get far before becoming overwhelmed by the amount of planning and strategizing necessary to succeed...but if you stick it out, it seems to be fairly long and rewarding!

I really liked the game and even beat it eventually, but it was all very complicated too, you start with a huge tutorial which is practically game in itself quite frankly and as the game goes on you get more and more tutorials along the way, great game but really does demand a lot of time and patience.
This game is amazing, your decisions affect the story and the characters in your party, also it has like 6 finals. I have the original in N64 so i recommend it a lot. I want to download someday the SNES version, it looks great too.
Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.
It's good but the effort and time and enemies running away is going to be the end of me if I play this game too frequently, just going by the first chapter.
I like how the character creation (ability) screen allows the protagonist to have completely hypocritical ideals. I severely doubt it affects anything beyond the gameplay but it's an interesting idea nonetheless.
It gets less slow after the first act. But yeah, your ideal actually determine your preferences for combat (what troops you get to start). Cool idea though. The story is one of the best I've seen in an RPG to date. The character is honorable, but flawed, and the cast is both huge and excellent. All the special characters are fun to recruit, but be careful which ones you choose. Some of them hate each other, and won't join otherwise.
When I bought it I was dissapointed it isn't as good as Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together, but relieved it's better than Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen.
Not saying March of the Black Queen is bad, but Ogre Battle 64 is a vast improvement. As a matter of fact, I haven't really played it through - so I can't really talk about how the story and characters stack up.
