Well I ended up getting all three R-Types after not being able to play R-Type 3. Whilst initially not happy about spending more money than I had to, I'm kind of glad I got them. The original R-Type is phenomenal - I've never really played it before but it's intensely nostalgic. Can you be nostalgic about a game you've never played? I think it's just the graphics and gamplay that does it.

Super R-Type is great too but HARD! Starting at the beginning of of a stage after ONE life lost on the boss? That's harsh but it's still great - I've managed to get to the third stage - god knows how!

R-Type 3, well, I can't comment on that one since I have a HD set up. I may track down a scart lead some day but, until then, I can only speculate as to what this is like.

I just wanted to buy the PC-Engine/Turbografx version of R-Type and it was removed from the Virtual Console (in germany). In fact not only this but all R-Type games were removed from the Virtual Console including Super R-Type and R-Type III. Maybe it would be a good idea if NintendoLife marks these games as "not available anymore". (Like already done with the SMS version.)

There is only one R-Type they don´t quit in the service. It is R-Type III, all other games was removed except that. I have all, it is better you get that game before they quit it too.

Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.

There is no single R-Type game available anymore. At least in germany. Maybe in Mexico it is different.

Here in the states, all of the R-Types except R-Type 3 are history as well. Fortunately I downloaded them all before they were removed.

R-Type III is only still on the service in North America. It was also removed in Japan, Europe, and Australia.

I got all the R-Type VC games except for the Master System version, and I'm kicking myself for missing out on it. Sure, it's not as good of a port as the TG-16 version, but it did have that bonus level

^ Lucky you. I wish I had downloaded the PC-Engine/Turbografx version earlier.

Ok, then North America (Canada, USA and Mex) has still R-Type III while all the world doesn´t. I recommend if you don´t have it get it.
