Hey I just picked up King of Fighters Anthology for Wii and I have to say it's absolutely sick. I love it. I especially love how great the classic controller is for playing the the games. Very natural. What I was wondering is how are the controls on virtual console SNK fighters. I am sort of imagining that the versions of the games being sold to the virtual console or the arcade versions and don't have control remapping. Is this true? And if there is no remapping of the controls identical to King of fighters anthology default. I mean those are pretty good although I would want to remap the shoulder buttons. Also is there any training mode?

I really want to pick up Last Blade 2. And maybe World Heroes Perfect. And maybe 'KoF '99.

I don't think you actually use the shoulder buttons in KOF? And I believe only KOF'98 and '99 had training modes? They were kind of a new idea back then. I'll check, though. EDIT: Yeah, only '98 on had the practice modes.

And most of them should have button mapping, but the Neo Geo pad only had 4 buttons I think? So the shoulder buttons can't be used? I'll check again. EDIT: Yeah, no shoulder buttons.

I guess that answers my question. I guess I'll just have to get used to no quick evade.

There are some qwirks you need to know about the NeoGeo VC, especially if you've gotten too used to KOF collection.
1. You get the console versions (AES), not the arcade versions (MVS). This translates into censorship (the KOF and SS series are the most affected) and only 4 credits. On the bright side, there are some features exclusive to console mode and they use memory cards.
2. Because it emulates the Memory Cards, there are no suspended saves.
3. The NeoGeo buttons (A, B, C, D, start and pause) are "hard mapped" to the controller you use (which includes the Wii Remote in a very awkward way). You can re-assign A, B, C and D if the game allows it. The GC controller can be a nightmare for some games.
4. They are displayed at 480i. You can't force progressive scan. It can be very annoying because many games use fast flickering to simulate transparency. So you better have a good scaler, a CRT or simply get used to it. Probably the WiiU could do a good job at that.
Passed that, they are great games and most of them are not available anywhere else. Just avoid the early ones such as Fatal Fury 1 or Sengoku unless you are a hardcore fan.

As far as I know the censorship is just region dependant. (Japanese AES or MVS Bios shows it and that is it).

Difficulty=MVS is the same as the Arcade (Most games allow changing it).

Ideally the thing to use is the proper AES Joystick (Called Neo Geo Stick 2 for Wii). I was going to get one but the postage was going to make it cost absolutely tons. (And the emulation wasn't perfect enough for me to want to).

Other Arcade Sticks for Wii U or Wii will be also good but I use a Logic3 one I got dirt cheap. (Not sure about if Gamecube ones would perform the best like the Soul Calibur one).

Censorship is region and console dependant. Unless you have a Japanese Wii, you'll get a censored American or European AES version. I've heard that censorship wasn't in Euro versions but I can't confirm it.

Yeah, I noticed this when I fired up my VC copy of Metal Slug that I had downloaded years ago, but hadn't played in a while. I'd swited to a different HD TV since then and suddenly I wasn't getting any picture. I think you put the Wii in 4:3 SD mode, it should work.

All VC games are forced to go into 4:3, what probably happened is that you activated 240p. To go back to 480i you have to go to the operation guide and press A, 2 on the Wii Remote and Z on the Nunchuck at the same time. If you are in 240p, pressing Home wil momentarily return it to 480i so you could change modes. I hope it works.
