well metroid prime hunters is the best multiplayer shooting/action game (besides kirby superstar ultra) on the market. It's a couple years old, but a wonderful game!

I own the Metroid VC games; but don't own the F-Zero games! I prefer Mario Kart instead! But both the NES & SNES Metroid games are definate must haves for anyone looking forward to downloading something off the VC! Do youself a favor & get either Metroid from the NES or Super Metroid from the SNES... and I mean like right NOW! I promise you won't regret it; even if you are a fan not... or that much of a skilled retro Metroid player! I say this because they're the best adventure/shooter games on the VC... and they stick much to adventure than the other Metroid games which seem like FPS!
I reccomend Metroid. It's the most atmospheric NES game I have ever played. I purchased it on Virtual Console and I used to play in the night-time in my bed-room while my wife was getting ready for bed. I remember once she "I don't like that game, it feels lonely." That kind of blew me away because you are supposed to feel lonely and like you are in a alien world and that the graphics and music could give you that vibe on such primitive technology (the NES, not the Wii) is amazing.
Both games were best on SNES and GBA. The GBA was practically the SNES Pt. 2 in terms of graphics and game design (which is why it was an awesome handheld).
I have a special place in my heart for the NES Metroid, but it's understandably not for everyone.
Thanks everyone. Next chance I get, I'll download Super Metroid and F-Zero X. I'm not that into FPS, so I'll pass on Metroid Prime. I'm just trying to get interested in all of Nintendo's major franchises. I'll get Mega Man 7 if it comes out.

On the VC, you should get Super Metroid and F-Zero. I'm one of the few people who loves the original over the N64 sequel. Also, if you can find them, Metroid Prime is also amazing, and F-Zero GX is a much better upgrade over F-Zero X. That way, you'll have (at least IMHO) the best 2D and 3D Metroids, and the best F-Zero-inspired racer (the original) and the best F-Zero X-inspired racer (F-Zero GX).

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
I like the SNES F-Zero better than the N64 version as well. Both are good, however. You really can't go wrong with a Metroid or F-Zero game in my opinion.

Oh, okay. If you liked the gameplay of GX over the original but can't get GX, then X is a fine substitute.
