EDIT: It was caused by Parental controls on the Wii U menu, it turns out there is a separate section for Wii Menu parental controls and I completely overlooked it. Thanks @Pahvi for your reply

I usually log onto the Wii Shop quite regularly and I still download titles on there regularly when I can afford to but this time I noticed a lot of the VC catalogue has gone missing.
I cross referenced with Wikipedia's list of Virtual console games and
There are only 44 NES games available as opposed to the 79 which should be available for purchase.
20 SNES games as opposed to 64
14 N64 games as opposed to 21
20 Mega Drive games as opposed to 74
5 Master System as opposed to 15
14 Turbo Grafx as opposed to 58
5 Neo Geo as opposed to 54
5 VC Arcade as opposed to 20

I looked at which titles have disappeared and all Square Enix, Natsume, Konami, Lucas Arts and Capcom titles seem to have disappeared.
All Zelda games have gone on all formats.
Notably Super Smash Bros and Lylat Wars on N64 has disappeared.
Alex Kidd games on Sega formats are all gone.

There's lots more which have disappeared but they are the noticeable patterns I saw. Just want to check if other people are seeing this also or is it just my Wii U in Wii mode being bad.
I'm in the EU region and this is what I'm seeing on the Wii Shop.

Have you tried searching manually?

Yeah, I've tried that.

Can't seem to find any of the missing titles
The only ones I can't find which I would have wanted are the Final Fantasy titles. I already downloaded Final Fantasy on NES and when I search for Final Fantasy, only the one I downloaded comes up and nothing else.
Final Fantasy IV is not on the WiiWare section either.

I'm guessing all is well in the NA region then.

@Flopsy86 I see 79 NES, 64 SNES, 21 N64, 58 TGX, 74 MD, 54 NG, 15 MS, 20 VCA games on my European Wii U shop channel.

A similar issue before was due to parental settings being on. Is this your case as well?

Thanks for this. I thought something strange was going on, I did set Parental Control as I have a child account on the Wii U menu but I disabled all of the Parental controls for the Wii U side of things only.
I've just now noticed that there was a Wii Menu option in the corner and I had to disable all of them. It's now fixed the problem.

My bad, I didn't realise that this was affected by the Parental controls on Wii U and my bad for not searching for this

Yeah I had the same issue. Parental controls are enabled by default for Wii mode for some reason. I noted having to use my PIN to play a sixteen rated game, but I didn't realise it also acted like a filter on the Wii shop at the time.
