I'm considering downloading Lost Levels. I already have SMB for the NES, but having Lost Levels would be like having it for the Wii also (in a sense). Is it any different from the first game? I downloaded DKC3 for the same reason. I already have the first two, but I'd never played the third and it allows me to play DKC without bringing my SNES out.

for more specific differences between the two games, The Lost Levels introduced poison mushrooms (touching them is like touching an enemy; big Mario becomes little Mario, and little Mario is killed... and i'm pretty sure Fire Mario goes straight to little Mario too), the different physics between the Bros. (Luigi jumps higher than Mario but can't stop on a dime anymore), and wind effects that will blow you off a platform or keep you from jumping farther (and sometimes they're just brutal about it, too). To help you out, The Lost Levels allows you to automatically continue from the beginning of the last level you were on (if you die on 6-3, for example, you'll restart on 6-1), unlike SMB where you had to hold down a couple of buttons or something for that to happen, and there's more levels (1-8 or 9, plus A-D iirc) to play, too... if you can make it to them, lol.
seriously, it's a hard game. if you're looking for something to breeze through when you have ten minutes to kill or something, The Lost Levels is not the game you want. :3

@Adam: I gave up on World 6. Even when I played Super Mario All-Stars last, with its save feature and all I could never get past D-4 and finally beat the game. D:

@ Black Dragon Last I played, I was on 6, too. I've beaten all the secret levels on All-Stars though, which even if not for the save feature, I thought was pretty easy in comparison to the original Famicom version.

Man, I like to think I'm good at Mario games, but this one proved me wrong. Still stuck on World 2. Pathetic, I know, but there's this jump in 2-2 that gets me every time.
So, yeah, if you want the game and love Mario, download it. Just be prepared for the high difficulty.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Another big difference that hasn't been mentioned are the reverse warp zones. These are aggravating. You think you found a great secret in World 5, only to learn that the warp takes you back to World 2. Of course, you don't have to go in it. You can let time expire and die.

Oh yeah, I don't like that jump. I had to switch to Luigi just to get past it.
I'm good at Mario games, but I'm not AS good at the 2D ones.
It's a completely different game from SMB (though the graphics are roughly the same), but only download it if you hate yourself. Like Blackdragon and Adam, I only got to World 6 before I got stuck. It starts out at world 8's difficulty from the first game, and just gets harder from there.
It's weird. I could beat these levels with no problems in SMB DX, but suddenly they became next to impossible in this version.
It's very probably due to Nintendo deciding to soften up the game a bit in later versions. I'm not masochistic enough to ever download this sucker. I'll stick with my Doki Doki Panic/SMB 2, thank you very much.
