Topic: I Missed The Deadline To Add More Wii Points :(

I always got my balance down to zero by buying Mega Man 9/10 DLC. So if you have those like I bet you do and never bought any DLC, go look at their in-game stores. I have most of it now, including Proto Man in MM9 after adding $20 credit the last night you could add points a week or so ago and buying Contra Rebirth and Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Used up my final 200 points that way.

I sort of regret it in hindsight, since about the last 5 or 6 times I've made Wii Shop purchases over the past 5 years, I told myself this was the end of it. So each time after buying the games I wanted, I'd proceed to spend my balance on MM9/10 DLC, thinking I wouldn't be back. Had I saved my 100-400 points left over each time though, I'd have 3-4 more games today.

Especially since Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 has all the DLC for both of these, it feels like sort of a waste. But at least it's gotten some use, and I don't have un-spendable money tied to my Wii.

I ended up adding 4000 points, for a total of 4500 points (i had 500 left over from the last time i added points — 3 years ago).

Since my Wii is infused with MAGIC and thus most any VC games i would potentially get are already on (or can easily be put on) my system, i've decided to limit any purchases to either WiiWare or VC from systems that aren't emulated all that well through MAGIC (so basically just N64 or Arcade). Also going to skip any NeoGeo stuff, since most of it is getting released on the Switch.

youve got doom 64 so youve got all the good n64 games already.
i mean the only good n64 game.

@MakeMyBiscuit As far as your SD Card question goes, that's actually quite simple:
Wii SD Card data can be written read and copied on any PC or laptop, so you could just make a 1:1 copy of the entire card to another one, or keep a backup on your computer. Personally, I've made several backups, on my PC, on a USB Stick and I burned a backup to a DVD, so if something happens with either of them, I'll always have a copy left somewhere.

Just stick the SD Card in a card reader, be sure to select ALL the data (some may be hidden, so you might need to make that visible by activating the "show hidden folders" settings in Windows).

So, it's actually pretty straight forward, and you should be able to copy everything on there without any problems whatsoever.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely do the same and thanks to the others about the info on the DLC. I also found out that GT6 for the PS3 also just shut down their online servers for the game this week. No more online purchases for that game.

As convenient as digital content is, this really puts a spotlight on the dangers of going all digital with a console (or anything really). I think Microsoft has made steps in the right direction by saying they want to make all their games playable on future systems. They have made great strides with their Xbox One backwards compatibility program. With that said, nothing beats physical copies which is why I can still enjoy my N64 carts and GBA carts on original hardware decades after those systems were released.

@masterLEON That's a good problem to have.

Actually makes me think about how much money I spent on the service over the years with my collection of 168 games. Even if the games costed $5 each or 500 Wii Points and I got more than NES games I've spent at least (168 X 500) = 84,000 Wii Points or $840 on the service

Yep, I will be backing up my SD card.

@MakeMyBiscuit

I’ve got 176 VC and WiiWare games and there is still tons more I would download if I could. I’ve still got 1500 points left and I’m driving myself crazy trying to figure out what to get lol. I will probably end up flipping a coin...

MakeMyBiscuit

@brooks83 Wow! You must have some collection. My "plan" was to get more WiiWare exclusives followed by some arcade games missed and more Turborgrafx 16 since those games very rarely released on other platforms. If the game is on steam or easily available on another system I tried not to get it because I could always get it later on another platform.

Hey- yeah I missed the deadline too. I bought points before the deadline but miscalculated how many points to add to my account to get all the games I wanted. I got everything, except for one last game since I'm a few hundred points short- Space Harrier for the VC Arcade. If anyone could gift this to me with a spare 800 points they have left before the store closes down i would be forever grateful! My Mii name is the same as my forum name. Thank you!!

I'd be happy to paypal the Seller to reimburse them for the points. Actually, someone with preexsting points could do very well selling gifted games for inflated prices...

@Meowpheel I didn't think gifting points was even an option. I thought you could only gift games themselves.
And even then, I'm not even sure gifting still works after Nintendo shut down the other online services in 2014. I thought it was based on Friend Codes, and wasn't that based on Club Nintendo accounts?
My memory is pretty bad, since again, I hadn't done that in years.

Yes, there doesn't appear to be any clear way to gift any points. The option to gift the games is still available though, if you still have points.

play2win80

Eel

Yeah, you'd need to gift the game itself.

It's based on friend codes. Not sure if it still works though.

Well I confirmed we can still gift games until the January 2019
shutdown. The problem is finding anyone with a spare 800 points they would be willing to "sell" in order to pay for the gift.

I know i'm super late to this, but we can't forget that with the Homebrew app obtained from hacking the Wii, it's still possible to get Wii shop games, even well after it's closed down.
