Its literally a matter of changing basically one song. That's what I read at least.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. That article is so poor and lacking, it's ridiculous. There are literally dozens of dozens of real and potential copyright issues that make it not fiscally worthwhile.

People need to face facts — this is not coming to VC. Especially not in NA, where the original game completely bombed sales-wise.

Loud minority on the web =/= financial justification for release.

Basically one song, as in that's one of the main ones holding it back. There's others but apparently that's the most crucial one that needs to be changed.

I don't think Nintendo bases what they release for Virtual Console on there sales. There's plenty of games on there that not many people bought originally.

I'm also pretty sure that after the near cult status EarthBound has gained, Nintendo would get plenty of downloads of it. They don't even make that much off of the Virtual Console so saying it needs "financial justification" doesn't really fit.

Well, the article that the same person made before had more reasons and many have used it to explain people why Earthbound won't come out as a downloadable game for Wii. Taking a look at this thread, the link appears here twice and it's also included in the news about the other issues. I also think that many people know already that it isn't coming but still some keep talking about it and won't stop until they finally accept it. There's no reason to not let them have one thread to talk about the game. I'm pretty sure that none of us can make them accept the truth, they just have to wait and see it by themselves. I'm not expecting to see the game on VC but there have been other miracles before so let's just wait and see what happens in the future.

@Late, I don't think it'll be on the Virtual Console either, and I've accepted that.

But I can't help but be annoyed with the reasons why.

Don't forget Mr. T! Man, Earthbound is fantastic. Nintendo just has to show it some love again. I'd be truly surprised if they never touched it again. Just fix it up and rerelease it on the Wii U VC to test the waters. Then make a new one on the 3DS. There are plenty of capable people out there who would do it justice.

Earthbound Series Dead

that article doesn't say a new Earthbound cannot be made. I didn't say the original director needs to do it. That's why I said I'm sure there are plenty of capable people out there who would do it justice if NIntendo would reboot it. Someone in the comments of that article even said he said in an interview a new game would be okay with him if Nintendo did it, he just wouldn't do it himself.

I really don't understand it. It really is one of my very favorite games of all time. I can't understand why Nintendo would forget about it completely. The 3DS would be a great platform for it, because portable seems to be the place that old school graphics and rpgs thrive today.

I don't think Nintendo has forgot about it, I think they are just moving beyond it. If they wanted to test the waters with the franchise they would have released Mother 3 outside of Japan.

Actually I see it differently, why risk copyright infringement lawsuits when you don't have the "financial justification"?

One song?

That could be replaced with the runaway five song, since that isn't a legal issue.

And I don't care what anyone says, Tomato can be trusted seeing how he is the one who told us about the legal issues in the first place. I think we could try to convince NCL to get it released since it isn't a huge lot of issues.

Earthbound will never see the light of day as far as VC is concerned.

If everything is complete pretty much, and the only MINOR thing is a 4 minute song, I would think they could fix it for a VC game this year or next year.

Did Nintendo come out and say it that it was that only one song?

Earthbound central confirmed from their source that the Hippie Song and the Sky runner were of concern, the Hippie could be changed, but NCL doesn't want the Sky runner to be changed.

If you don't believe me, then go there for yourself. It's where most people EVEN LEARNED of the legal issues in the first place.

No it's not. While the battles are boring for the first 15 hours or so, once you get all of the party members and learn PSI, it becomes more fun. Which is why many people want it on the VC, because it deserves to be shown to a new gen of gamers.
