It's obviously just NOT coming. Just buy the game yourself. The game has been hyped up so much in recent years it's really just overrated now.

Yeah, unless you're listening to the people who call it literally the greatest game ever created, which you should never do no matter what the game is, it actually lives up the the hype. It's a really good game that even some games of today could learn a few lessons from.
Argh! I've said more than once now I have never played Earthbound! I know little about it and never even heard about it before coming to this site. So I'm certainly not whining about it not coming to VC - I don't even care. At all. In the slightest.
I'm defending the people who do want it. You're assuming things about people you don't know who are posting about a game they like in a forum set up for people to do so. Yeah it's super unlikely to come out but can't you just have a discussion about the whys and the why nots without telling them to "get over it". There's games I'd like to see myself, such as a re-release of Shenmue, but if you told me to "get over" that being released on another console I'd tell you to go to hell. There's nothing wrong with liking a game and wishing for a release. Stop being such killjoys and just have a discussion about it.
Its not that I am being a killjoy its just that this subject has been done to death already, and not only here but everywhere on the internet. Its not hard to find the reasons why Earthbound wont be released and thats that. We have discussed over and over why Earthbound will not be released several times maybe not in this thread but ones like it. I mean dont get me wrong I love Earthbound and I am glad that I had the chance to play it and still can if I want to. I am also sad that others who have never played this game wont get a chance to unless the fork out some serious cash and it would be great if it did come to the VC but as I said before we have been over it a dozen times as to why it wont be released and people just have to move on and except that it wont be ever released and that the only way the can play it is to pay the high prices for a cartridge and a SNES. That is the only way and probably will ever be the only way so people just have to except it. Yeah it sucks but thems the breaks.

If you want to know why Earthbound is not going to be on VC Go to Earthbound central, it tells you why in great detail.
There is no definitive answer as to why Earthbound is not on the Virtual Console. Fan sites can continue claim to legal copyright issue, but Nintendo has not come forth to confirm so it is all just speculation. That is not to say what EarthBound Central says is untrue as all releases have go through a legal clearance process...so it is not just EarthBound in the loop. We just do not know for sure what is going on.
Nintendo's never going to admit to legal issues. They've always been rather secretive about why they don't do stuff. The fact the Masterpiece demo was included in the Japanese version of Brawl, and yet the full game was never available, even over there, is pretty telling.
I just hope it comes on the VC in some way.. Even if the music is edited and lots of other things, this title deserves to be on VC no matter what. If only some campaign or someone at E3 brings it to Nintendo's attention, maybe then it could be released on the VC.

The main reasons is because the "Franky" song has been noticed by the Chuck Berry Foundation (Or whatever the hell it's called) because of it's obvious "Johnny B. Goode" similarities. There's more Beatles references, such as stating a question in an early part of the game about "What famous Beatles song" and so on and so on.That diamond dog reference from David Bowie's album (When it's actually from British culture), and a lot more cultural messages are expressed through this game.

Editing the text like they did in the Mother 2 GBA port to remove the references, editing the music (Like changing the Hippie/Frank music to one of the ordinary battle themes) could be easy ways to get around all legal issues. It's not like the references being removed will cause Giygas to activate the anti-piracy screen.
I am thinking of getting a SNES sometime, though. Just to play this game. I Just want to get a REAL SNES instead of those bad pirates.

Man, Earthbound is fantastic. Nintendo just has to show it some love again. I'd be truly surprised if they never touched it again. Just fix it up and rerelease it on the Wii U VC to test the waters. Then make a new one on the 3DS. There are plenty of capable people out there who would do it justice.

Well, I think that moonside doesn't havethat much flickering, compared to a game with flickering lights like Zelda II, at least that what it seems when I play it on my Mother 1+2 cartridge...

that is an idea although its going to be a little hard to convince shigesato itoi to agree, as he said there would be no altering allowed to it.
