Just wanted to start a thread for discussion of top titles across the entire VC library released so far.

For me, I've been trying to play Super Mario RPG a LOT lately (my TV only displays in 50Hz for some reason; when I try to play Mario RPG or Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, my screen flickers!). Time to get a new TV methinks...

Some of the best games I played from the VC starts with Streets of Rage 2 from the Genesis, Sin and Punishment from the N64, The Sonic Series from the Genesis, Act Raiser from the SNES, and Devils Crush on the T16. That should start things out.

I can't see past Super Mario 64 & Ocarina of Time for just £7 each. Actually, Super Mario Bros. 3 for half that amount is also a good deal.

I love punch out for the NES, it's one of my best purchases so far. So good, i actually attempted to make a short tribute trailer to celebrate the upcoming punch out Wii.

I hope this doesn't break any rules as i am not advertising any homepages or something^^

Other great games i bought so far are Zelda, and i mean any Zelda currently purchaseable on VC, all the DKC games, especially part 2 and of course the Megaman games.

My favourite games are Megaman 1-3, Soldier Blade, Super Star Soldier and Final Soldier. Street Fighter 2, Bomberman '93 and AirZonk / Blazing Lasers are very good, too.
My highlight is Megaman3^_^

I never get tired of Mega Man 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Bomberman '93.

Since I´m european, I think Super Mario RPG is the highlight of the VC releases. We never got to play it in the 90´s, and it´s one of my favourite games of all time. Gotta love that dialogue!

This seems like a good answer, with the exception that I've never played BM'93.

If I only had a single 2,000 Point card to spend:
1) Super Mario 3
2) Megaman 2
3) Super Metroid
4) 300 leftover points

I loved SMRPG, but probably not enough to replay it today. I have to REALLY love an RPG to replay it, and SoM, Chrono Trigger and FFVI are high on that list.

Other greats for the NES - Punch-Out!, Ninja Gaiden 1 or 2, Startropics (although only recommended to those willing to put up with periods of frustrating difficulty)

2000
-500 (Super Mario 3)
-500 (Megaman 2)
-800 (Super Metroid)

I have to say that now that we have Majora's Mask on our VC, we definitely have two of only a handful of VC games that can be called 'masterpieces'.

For me, I have several games that really have stood the test of time (and not just nostalgia), and I play 90% of the time I sit down for some VC gaming (I have downloaded more games than I would care to admit...).

Streets of Rage 2 and 3: not enough can be said about these games. If you like fighting games or brawlers, these are the best.
Metal Slug: just a solid and fun shooter.
Super Mario 64: A true classic in every way.
Gate of Thunder: Just a great shmup. I love how fluid the ship moves in this one, and the challenge is spot on.

There's a few others, but those would be my picks for the "cream".

Oh, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you.

The Virtual Console has introduced me to Punch-Out!!, which has since become one of my all time favorite games. Super Punch-Out is also very, very good. I'm also surprised nobody's mentioned Majora's Mask or Paper Mario. Oh, and Sin and Punishment! Most of us probably would've missed out on that gem completely without the VC.

Personally, I wasn't that impressed with Mario RPG. Maybe it was just because of the insane amount of hype, but I didn't like it nearly as much as the Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi series'. Still a good game, but not my favorite.

Parasol Stars was an original sequel of Rainbow Islands on the PC Engine; hopefully it will be in a Hanabi festival because it's a terrific game on the Japanese VC.
