Topic: Chrono Trigger (Wii Mode VC on Wii U) Won't Download!

Before I ring up Nintendo in anger about my issue I though I'd run it past you lot on the odd chance that you may have come across a similar situation.

I just bought Chrono Trigger on the Wii Mode Shop Channel, yet it won't allow me to download it despite having taken my points for the purchase. It persistently brings up 201803 and 201910 errors but there are no connectivity issues I can see. Case in point I recently downloaded MM7 on Wii U and redownloaded Bubble Bobble Plus and Jett Rocket in Wii Mode with no problems.

I've also altered the parental controls within the settings to ensure I can download within Wii Mode. Yet Chrono Trigger won't even try to download. I have more than enough space and it's logged into my account activity as bought so I'm genuinely baffled.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would suggest calling Nintendo, but you may just want to wait a few hours and try again.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Have u tried downloading another game from the Wii Shop Channel? I know it would cost you more money but it would be interesting to see if it will allow you to download something else.

Bottom line - call Nintendo support.

And Chrono Trigger is a mighty fine selection. Good luck getting it onto your console.

@bezerker99 I only put enough points on my account to buy Chrono Trigger. I don't think there's anything else for 100 points that I could test it with.

Chrono Trigger is probably my favourite RPG of all time. It annoys me that now that I've a little free time and some spare cash (a rare ourence these days) I can't spend it playing it.

@Ichi I appreciate that but I tried downloading it a handful of times each day since Thursday. This coupled with the fact that I can download my entire Wii collection from the shop right now, with no problems, tells me that it can't be a server error.

@DiscoGentleman I'll be the model of calm serenity. With any luck the issue will be solved quick enough.

@Ichi Thanks all the same.

It's a fantastic game and one of the best narratives I've ever played. If only Square Enix would make that sequel that everyone's been dying for.

Chances are that it's a problem on their end. Good luck at getting it resolved, since I very much doubt that customer service will serve as a go-between in order to seek a resolution. Chances are that they'll just be insistent that you send the console in for maintenance, rather than tackle the problem in a logical manner.

I had a similar issue years ago on the original Xbox. Bought both booster packs for Project Gotham Racing 2, yet the Long Beach pack would not download for me. Obviously an issue at their end when one pack downloads fine and the other refuses.

Yet support only would have me do nonsense that obviously wouldn't resolve the issue, like recovering my gamertag, and wouldn't pursue the matter further other than setting up a repair for my console. I knew better and instead got in contact with Bizarre Creations, the developer of PGR2, directly at their forum (Which luckily had several active employees that regularly interacted with the public).

I asked nicely and this employee responded that he had just tried and encountered the same issue and that he knew just exactly the person to get a hold of in Redmond to get the issue resolved. Within about 90 minutes, he replied back to give it a try now and sure enough, it downloaded just fine.

I hope you're lucky and get someone that will deviate from the book upon recognition that this is a rare issue at their end instead of at the user's end like is usually the case. If not, hopefully someone there verifies that everything is working every once in a while, and will catch this issue and resolve it in time.

Edit: Just noticed the time stamps. Any luck at getting it fixed?

@GoneFishin They were about as unhelpful as you imagined. I opened our conversation by telling them that I downloaded other Wii and Wii U virtual console titles. They responded with 'have you tried a connection test?'. It's like the man was unable to deviate from a script placed in front of him, despite the clearly painted picture. They recommended I just keep trying over the next few days to see if the problem persists (it had already been a couple of days at this point btw).

Eventually it did download, and I enjoyed playing through it again immensely, but ultimately Nintendo themselves were useless at giving me any sort of useful advice or peace of mind about the issue.

Thanks Nintendo!

This reminds me, I wish Chrono Trigger had came to Wii U VC...

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

It certainly should have. With luck it'll come to the Switch, and this time we'll own it permanently!

And it's lame that it didn't appear on the Classic SNES Mini.

Maybe there's a chance of it appearing on New 3DS, but if it does it will probably be a Japanese-only.
I know it was only a couple weeks ago they got the SNES Final Fantasies, but the west didn't get FF1 either on 3DS (in neither the original VC release nor the modern "3D" version, even though that should've been just another of the many ports they've put out in recent years)
