Topic: C64, first console to be gone, which one is next?

As of August 4th, the entire C64 library is gone in NA.
What's to ask is not if it will come back, the real question is, "who's next?".

You mean on the VC?

Backloggery. Now playing: 3D Dot Game Heroes, Donkey Kong, EarthBound Beginnings, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+.

Who says something will be "next"?

Wii Connect 24 last month, VC C64 this month. Nintendo is trying to kill the Wii because it has better sales than the Wii U, do you really think we shouldn't wonder who's next?

Why on earth would they kill off their own product, one that most likely brings them more profit per unit than Wii U?
They delete them, because it's no longer profitable for them; it's that simple.

Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8

Then, under that logic, the Wii U is next. The original XBOX Live lasted for 5 years and it was incompatible from the beginning with the XB360 Live system and the number of users was too little. By the way, Wikipedia needs a source to make the change at their VC list, the Wii Shop Channel is not enough for them, they need IGN.

It's obvious that Nintendo is not supporting the Wii nearly as much (or at all) as they were before the launch of the Wii U, but that's to be expected. When new hardware is released, that becomes the company's priority. When the 3DS launched, fewer and fewer games came out for the DS or DSiWare. It's just the nature of the machine.

More directly on topic though: Is the implication that no more C64 games are being released on the Wii's VC, or are they now removed from the service? I just did a Google search and couldn't find the info on that. It's also worth noting that all of the C64 games released on VC back in 2009. That means there hasn't really been news on C64 games in four years. A drop in support doesn't really seem like a breaking story at this point.

Maybe not breaking news but it is a milestone as it is the first system to be gone. You won't find anything googling, try making a search at Nintendo site and it will give you no results, use the Wii Shop Channel and you'll only find 8 consoles instead of 9.

For the people who still think Wikipedia is a 100% reliable source of information, a guy who seems to be a moderator, McDoobAU93, removed twice my update about the removal which is true, but hasn't changed an edit I made about the games in the same section, I re-listed Boulder Dash and updated the number of games to 9, which is absolutely false.
UPDATE: At the NA Nintendo page, searching for Commodore gives you Boulder Dash, the first to be delisted, but not any of the other C64 games.

I would bet that who ever has the license to the c64 games didn't renew it.

Your logic is flawed.

I had no idea some C64 games came on cassette until I came across a few some years back. It totally blew my mind.

How does that even work?

All I know for sure about them is that they were notorious for 10-20+ minute load times.

Side A - The Last Ninja

Side B - Michael Jackson Thriller

Yeah I owned a C64, Vic 20 and a Tandy computer back in the day that used cassettes... Most kids these days don't know that we had to rewind our games when we finished playing them

You'd probably have to explain the word "rewind" to them.
