Topic: Are we ever going to see Chrono Trigger on the VC?

I am playing Chrono Trigger for the first time ever on my Nintendo DSi and this game is AWESOME. I would like to play this game on the big screen though one day. Why has Square Enix not released Chrono Trigger on the VC yet? This game is possibly one of the greatest games of all time!

There's always the issues of sales. From what I'm able to gather Chrono Trigger's multiple releases on the SNES, PSX, and DS have barely reached 1 million copies combined in the US. However in Japan, Chrono Trigger has sold several million copies.

Square Enix prefers to re-release their classic games on the DS with some new content so that they can get as much money as possible. And it works!

So the answer to your question is no.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Hope, at least in Europe where we didn't had the original, and the DS version came without a Multi-5 translation, even when there are a lot of translations made by fans.

Considering that Final Fantasy I through IV have all been released multiple times both in port and remake versions, and they've announced all of those are coming to Virtual Console soon, I see no reason why Chrono Trigger can't make it's way there eventually as well. After the DS version sales dissapate, of course. It might be a good long while before we see it but I think it's a safe bet.

I'm also currently playing through the DS version and even though I've played it when it originally came out (I didn't get to far originally though) I've got to say that this game's reputation is well placed. A fantastic RPG and possibly the best one ever made. Will gladly double dip if this does indeed ever hit Virtual Console.

Future Wii purchases:
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid: Other M
Zelda Wii
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Sin and Punishment 2

I'm tempted to buy the Playstation version of Chrono Trigger. But I heard it has horrible loading times and it is real buggy.
Is that true?

Agreed on all counts, except I would be quadruple-dipping.

Also, PSP got a Final Fantasy remake, and they are soon putting the original on PSN. Actually, Japan got it today, the spoiled brats.

I agree that it's unlikely on VC, but it's not impossible. People will buy Final Fantasy a million times on a million different systems for some reason. Chrono Trigger does not inspire the same kind of fanaticism.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

The load times killed the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger for me. I have it for my SNES anyway, so I'd just as soon play the real deal. But the DS version is quite good. I think it will come to the VC eventually, but long after Square-Enix is sure the DS version has sold all it can.

Plain old gamer :)

I cannot see why we won't see releases of all the Westernised Square RPGs; I'll definitely pick this up if it ever graces the VC.
