Contra: Hard Corps Uprising is hitting in less than 3 weeks and I'm purtty stoked. Anyone else nabbing it off the PSN or XBL?

I might if I can get the cash to get some MS Points or whatever it is that XBLA uses.

Has anybody downloaded Contra: Hard Corps Uprising yet on the PSN or XBA?
Contra fans are saying it's pretty damn great, and that it's refreshing playing a game in this day in age that's actually incredibly challenging(Aside from MM9 and MM10 for ex)for once out of the many 'tutorial drenched and hold you by the hand' shooters and what have you.

Yet Reviewers are being a smidge more hard on it 'because' of the challenge and steep learning curve. Give me a break, this is contra for crying out loud. What panzy's....Spoiled by the amount of unchallenging games that this day and age pumps out I guess will do it that to ya! I love a good challenge, makes the experience far more rewarding, intense and satisfying.

I think I may give it a shot right after I'm finished up with Pikmin NPC, which will be tomorrow night. :)

Hard Corps Uprising is amazing. A full retail level game and im suprised that they didnt release it on CD.

Takes you back to the days of hard games in 1991 with limited continues and steep learning curve.

Its better then shattered soldier although that was good too.

Ahhh! that stage looks awesome! :)
But I get the feeling that the entire score is going to sound like typical and forgettable generic Anime Rock. :p
How many stages are there by the way? ReBirth was easily the weakest Contra I've played to date...And that's mainly because of it's uncreative and craptastic Bosses(aside from the first visually at least) the infinite continues and it being on the complete short side. It just felt like a half juiced effort and left me completely unsatisfied.

Which of the series is Uprising more in tune with?

8 stages. Its a very tough game. Ive unlocked stage 7 recently.

Plenty of replay value. You can play arcade mode which is the hardest or uprising mode where you can level up your character and buy upgrades to make the game easier. While doing this you are getting better at the game and can attack the arcade mode again.

For the music it is pretty generic rock like the guilty gear / blazblue games but still good.

I have no desire to play Uprising Mode, I'm going 'Arcade' all the way! ;)
But what I'm wondering is if the game whimps out and gives you infinite continues? The Contra games of the old always had limited which imo is the only way to fly.

Ahhh looky' what i found! B-) my Old wonderful & ContraTastic 2010 thread based on one of the greatest Run n' gun platforming infused Retro franchises around! which of course doesn't get too much lovin' around here, but that's because most of these Nintendo Life goobers fear the rock hard challenge that awaits muhahaha. Now, Operaction C was the last radical Contra title i had the portable privilege to take down, and as expected it was no walk in McDonalds park, even that sneaky Hamburgler couldn't Rizer his way through this one alone!

Untitled

Really though, it's easily one of the most standout contra titles in the franchise even if it manages to borrow a lot 'stage design-wise' along with many of the asthetics from Contra II: Super C. While managing to dish out entirely new bosses and ripping some of the classic Contra tracks from the original which is no suprise since it has thee' best score in the entire franchise.

Untitled
Contra chicks, i love em! B-) Lance Bean had it so good!

Anyways! My next Retro purchase aside from Mega man 6, will no doubt be Contra:Hardcorps as it's the only retro Contra that i haven't had the chance to play. And I'm truly thrilled to try it since my Retro (Nes, Snes, Genesis and 'future' Atari 2600) set up is almost complete hehe. And no, 'Contra Force' doesn't count, sorry. :p

Next up will Be Hardcorps Uprising after that....Although I'm not quite sure i dig the Guilty Gear anime-fied like approach with the visuals and Jap-rock infused soundtrack. But underneith it all I'm sure it offers that classic tough as nails contra experience that i most definitly can't pass up. And then there's Shattered Soldier....which i practically have zero desire to play...Must be the extremely dark, super mechanical and colorless post appocalyptic dismal approach, but you could almost say the same exact thing about the original Harcorps, but eh! '16-Bit Contra' as most of us RetroBabies can agree with seems far more appealing!

Now, I shall leave you Boils and Ghoules with some Classic Contra gameplay to remind you of the Mega Magic that the original had during it's NES release! I Still fondly remember the day when my mom came back from Hawaii when i was 5 with a brand spankin' Rambo/Arnold S inspired Silver grey incased new copy of(you guessed it) Contra! I'll never forget that moment since i was shocked to even get an NES game in the first place. It was a rarity back in those days, considering most of us could only rent them where 'getting' a brand new copy was a thing you'd usually get during your B-day or Christmas. :p

Sadly i've only played Contra Rebirth so far. I plan on getting Contra 4 which has the original and Super C and download Contra 3 at some point.

Whoknows, it's just so odd for Konami to release Contra II: Super C, III: The Alien Wars, followed by ReBirth and not the original....Anybody know why? One of thee' most memorable and amazing NES titles gets the VC shaft for no apperant reason....Pretty odd ballish and it just doesn't make any sense whatsovever unless MS currently has it as an exclusive or something on XBOX Live. Boooo. :p

Wavey does love him some original classic Contra! He even dye's his mullet blue to match Lance Bean's hair! Me, I prefer Super C. Anyway, Contra Arcade is available on Xbox arcade and I cannot help but wonder if there was some exclusivity deal between Konami and Microsoft for "Contra" despite their being some differences between the two versions. Why wouldn't Konami release Contra arcade on the other systems as well if that were not the case? Oh well, original copies are the only way to go when rockin' retro.

Man, Contra: Hard Corps is fantastic! A real blast to play with some great, fluid animations and a bunch of weapons. The great thing about the Wii's VC is that you can play games without having to own 15 different consoles. The problem is that they don't have games like this or Castlevania Bloodlines or the Super Rocket Knight games on the VC.

If Nintendo were to get serious about Virtual Console instead of toying with everyone, the Wii would be the greatest system of all time. So many classics people would willingly pay for and they don't seem to care. NES Contra , Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, the original Star Fox. Need I say more? Here's hoping they'll get it right with the Wii U. Anyone know who's in charge of the VC program?

@PoorVGameNerd Although many of us in gaming communities would like lots more VC games, i'm not sure if the majority of Wii owners even use the shop. The sales might not be high enough for Nintendo to bother releasing new stuff.
@Waveboy After reading your earlier posts, yes, I have played Operation C. It is pretty good for the GB but suffers from the small screen size and is a little less action packed kinda like the Mega Man GB games. And what's up with Contra Force? Sure it's not traditional and it reminds me of Shinobi and Metal Slug a little, but it's not a bad game in it's own right.

Has anyone played the Game Boy version of Contra III? The graphics are really impressive for the Game Boy and it's a fair port. Not as good as Operation C, but impressive nonetheless.

Well i've been enjoying Contra 4 recently and yeah, it's hard. The only way I stand a chance of beating it right now is on Easy but I will conquer you someday Normal mode! I'm up to the Harbor level with the rocket right now and it's been kicking my butt so I guess it's time to man up, rip off my shirt, put a bandanna on, and whoop it Contra style.

Nobody responded about it, but if you didn't know, Contra Force was a rebranded version of a canceled Japanese game. It was going to be called Arc Hound.

call me crazy but i loved this game. i remember after i got home from the hospital after breaking my femur due to a beautiful car wreck, i sat down (kinda had to)
and got so close to beating this game. where i saved my game was a total failure, i remember the save point was with like no health left or something and i was stuck in some elevator. i never got to beat it. i also remember i kept telling myself the game was too new school for me. nevertheless i enjoyed the game and had fun. i should break my leg more often
