In 1991 my dad got the NES for Christmas. It came with Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt with the orange Zapper. Eventually, I "adopted" it.
Over time, I acquired several games for it. Obviously, I acquired classics such as Zelda and the other Super Mario games. However, I did get the F1 game Al Unser Jr. Turbo Racing, most likely due to my passion for cars as a kid. Dad's always been an F1 fan, so he probably noticed it. He might be the reason I got Top Gun. He may have seen the movie. Marble Madness has yet to be determined.
I've since become very partial to it, and cannot see myself without it. I also acquired Gun.Smoke, which I found to be a decent scrolling shooter. More recently, I acquired three Disney titlles. Rescue Rangers, which I always wanted, Darkwing Duck, and Duck Tales. I also have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as I was always watching the Burger King VHS episodes and had plenty of other merchandise.
I've also downloaded ten NES games to my Wii.
Despite all this, I'm very biased toward the 90s, as I turned five in late 1990.

Same here guy. I adopted my cousins' Nintendo consoles when I was about 4 years old, and had alot of games. I had two consoles because I had 2 cousins that shared one and another who was an only child,, but one was missing the "flap" and was colored on bu one of us kids. They worked, but I think my little brother put water in one of them so it didnt work anymore, or we were just rough... anyway thats how everything happened.

Me too But my first system was a SNES, which I think came out in 1992, or somewhere around there? I had Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and Donkey Kong Country to keep me busy for pretty much the next 5 or 6 years.
My second system was the SNES. It's my favorite, and I have many games for it, not including the VC downloads. I think I played that more often than any other system, except for maybe the PlayStation. I didn't get the N64 due to its strange controller.

My first N64 console (my brother's) came to my home around 1997, then I got my own in 2000 and it carried me throughout the sixth generation until I got my Wii.
Portable:
I got this as a present. Visited the then-Pokemon Center in New York and picked it up.
My family got an Atari 2600 when I was quite little - maybe 5 years old? My father was excited about the games and had a good time playing at first, but he was always very competitive and didn't enjoy seeing his little boy start beating his scores in games like Frostbite and Stampede. (Still have the Frostbite badge from Activision for sending in a high score!) Eventually the system ended up being "mine" by default when others lost interest... my first gaming system, and for a long time the only console I would have access to.
Shortly after the SNES came out, my family got an NES. Sure we were behind the times, but with a HUGE library of good games available I wasn't complaining. My parents fell in love with Tetris and Dr Mario, while I played a wide variety of games by renting them for a night and staying up all night to play.
In university I managed to get a second-hand N64 once the prices dropped. It was a great system, but the games were so expensive that I could only afford to own a small selection: Goldeneye, Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Party, StarFox 64, Ocarina of Time, and The New Tetris. Luckily those games were all excellent fun, and are still considered some of the very best from that generation.
Although I regret missing out on the PS2 and Dreamcast, the next console I would be able to afford (first due to money, then due to limited spare time) was a Wii. Between Virtual Console retro love and GameCube backwards compatibility, it's seen a lot of use.
My first console was a transparent purple Game Boy Color. I got it for my 8th birthday with the game of Thunderbirds, which is a good TV series, but the game is so bad that not even the nostalgia factor of it being my first game can make me enjoy it.
Sadly, I don't have the Game Boy Color any more. It went missing about eight years ago when I moved house. Weirdly, I still have my Pokemon Gold cartridge which was inside it at the time, so I really don't have a clue what happened to it!
Atari 2600 and some other system, might have been a Commodore 64. They were the first, I only really got interested in video games with the SNES though.

An Atari 2600 back in 1995 My Mom got it for me to keep me home because I always went to my neighbor's house to play their SNES. It came with Pac-man, which I thought was amazing at the time
