1984 really isn't so bad. If you can count Japanese release dates, DUCK HUNT is the obvious standout, and easily my favorite of the year. I still don't understand why that hasn't been remade for the Wii Zapper on WW or something. (I know there's the game on Wii Play, but it's not the same).
If I can't use the earlier Japanese release dates, my second favorite (and the only other game I've played on the list) would have to be Drugwars. Played that on my TI-83 in middle school. The game was banned at school, so everybody wanted it. Another good option would be Punch Out (Arcade). I never played that version though, just a bit of Super Punch Out back in the day, so I can't count it.

Chrono Trigger was released in 1995, my birth year, and although I've never played the original, I have the DS remake. I really want to play Earthbound, but unfortunately I've never owned a copy of the game or an SNES.
Way to make me feel like an old man. I don't remember playing too many games that came out during the year I was born. I really didn't get into video games until the NES was released and I was 4 when that was released in America. The only games out around the time I was born I can remember playing as I got old enough were original arcade cabinets of Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, and Galaga. All of which came out a year or two before I was born.
Well, out of the six or so games listed in the Wikipedia article for my birth year the only one I've heard of, let alone played, is Space Invaders, so that'll have to be my answer.

Super Mario World. no contest. had I been born a year earlier, It would be Chrono Trigger. Had I been born 14 years later, it would be Super Mario Galaxy 2
Chrono Trigger is supposedly the best one. I haven't really played it for myself, but I guess it's great.
