I just played through MM5 for the first time in a while, and as much as I criticize the game, by itself it's pretty enjoyable. If this is the first game someone plays in the series they should be pretty satisfied with it. However, there are some blatant disregard to creativity and detail within. These aren't just nitpicky things like I don't like the weapons or I don't like the bosses, these are irrefutable. The first is the lack of diversity in the Proto and Wily castles' music. The same song throughout every stage in each respective castle. That is inexcusable. The second thing that bothers me might seem petty. Nevertheless, it bugs me that when you're jumping from capsule to capsule fighting the bosses again, you go back to the actual lair that you fought the bosses in originally. The previous games had a uniform background with appropriate platforms in place. That in itself doesn't bother me too much, but what really boils my blood is that the gate is visible in these lairs. To me, it shows a lack of care. The final tidbit I have is debatable, as it is a personal taste. I've always liked the water themed levels because of the low gravity effect. Wave Man's stage never puts you directly in the water. Instead, they swapped the gravity mechanics into a space themed level with Star Man. I guess it makes more sense since I can jump thirty feet in the air in space but can't jump at all under water. I'm a traditionalist I suppose.

That's all. Thoughts?

Thoughts? Wardy, you sure do like Mega Man. This has got to be your 4th or 5th post about Mega Man that I've noticed. Anyways, I played this and beat it when I was younger, seriously though, nothing is as hard as the recent Mega Man releases. They kick my butt.

I think your complaints are irrefutable, and instead they are terribly nitpicky.

Variety of music is nice, but a great song is better than a few good ones and some easily forgotten ones, the Wily Stage theme is pretty nice.

The other two complaints aren't worth a response.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a Mega Man nerd. I could talk about other games but most games I would like to talk about haven't been played by many people like MetalStorm and all the beat em ups that are out there. Everyone has an opinion on Mega Man. Trying to freshen things up instead of just asking for Top 10 lists all the time ya know?

Good review of the game. Now, how do we know it'll be on the VC?

He doesn't. It's just natural to think Capcom isn't going to suddenly stop with 4. I suspect most of the games will be released eventually. Well except 8 of course.. Well, that is unless they "remake" it for WiiWare or the Sega Saturn is suddenly added to the VC lineup.

Dates are for Japanese Wiiware, where Mega Man games always appear first. Just in case you're wondering, the Mega Man games don't usually take long at all to appear in other regions outside of Japan. Mega Man 3 appeared in all regions the same week, with Japan's only appearing days before, whereas Mega Man 4 took 2 months, but either way, its been a short wait.
Mega Man - July 29, 2008
Mega Man 2 - August 26, 2008 (Wait of 1 month)
Mega Man 3 - November 4, 2008 (Wait of 3 months)
Mega Man 4 - February 9, 2010 (Wait of 15 Months)

Not really a pattern here.

Didn't the EU have MM1 and 2 for almost a year before Japan and NA?

I thought MM4, 5, and 6 would have come out along with 10 like how 1, 2, and 3 did with 9. But since it didn't, I'm guessing Capcom is working on a MM11 and they're waiting for that to be completed before releasing MM5.
