Topic: Yet another Nintendo anniversary: celebrate 15 years of Pokémon today!

Today, February 27th, marks the fifteenth anniversary of one of the most popular game franchises ever: Pokémon. On that faithful day in 1996, Game Freak released a pair of games that would rock the handheld gaming world no game since Tetris had done ever since: Pokémon Red and Green (released as Red and Blue in the west).

A wholly clever battle rock-paper-scissors system and the absence of certain creatures in each version, forcing you to trade with buddies, made it the definite monster battling RPG. If you did manage to catch ém all, you could pit your monsters against those of your friends for even more excitement.

In fact, the game was so popular it spawned not only numerous sequels and spin-offs, but also comics, a tv show, movies, a trading card game, toys, plush dolls and practically anything you could think off. The series is still going strong with next week's release of Black and White arriving March 4th for Nintendo DS.

To another fifteen years of Pikachus and Mudkipz!!!!

Sega remembered Sonic's anniversary. In fine tradition, they released Sonic Genesis for the GBA.

...and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) for PS3 and X-Box 360, two of the heaviest contenders for worst Sonic game ever.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

Wow, that's like trying to poison your grandpa's cake on his 110th birthday because you don't want him around anymore

I think that's pretty obvious in my case. Bulbasaur's Number 001!

I want to see someone draw a Golduck dressed in a purple shirt with gold buttons; a blue undershirt visible only by a thick, wrinkled collar; a dark purple cape; and a gray fedora facing off against a creature with a head of a Tauros (mechanical eye optional) and the body of a Bulbasaur. The caption: Darkwing Golduck vs. Tauros Bulbasaur.

I love pokemon. Ever since my mum bought a copy of blue version for me and my younger brother to share, I have been addicted. The two of us crowded around the gameboy and only ever playing at the same time made for some great experiences. I can still remember our first pokemon ever. Squirtle.

I'm still playing, and although I have no doubt regressed as a trainer (I only capture and train pokemon I deem awesome now - and end up with extremely unbalanced squads featuring 4 psychics, or in other cases 3 poisons), the magic is still very much alive.

Someone could destroy you with a Drapion that knows Crunch and Earthquake.

Vaporeon's my guy. Acid Armor + Substitute + Double Team + Toxic was my old move set for him. I'm kind of a jerk.

I'm really looking forward to playing Red again on VC. Still the best Pokemon game, if not its remake.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

Those first games are full of glitches. You're probably better off with FireRed if you have a handheld that can play GBA games.

Playing through Gold for the very first time is perhaps my dearest gaming memory.
